The One K shape and liner that fits your head, a price tier below Samshield.
One K comes in Regular/Round and Long Oval shells with swappable liners, wide-brim Avance models, junior sizes and CCS parts that change the look later. Riders weighing it against a Samshield choose by head shape first. Here is how the two compare, in riders' own words.

The short version
One K's Defender is the standard-brim helmet to try against a Samshield 2.0, and the MIPS CCS Avance Wide Brim is the one to hold up against a Miss Shield.

One K helmets
I also have a weird shaped head like you. I would definitely try either OneK or Samshield. Those are the only two that I've ever tried on that fit me. They fit me the same, but the OneK is about 1/2 the price and better looking (IMO).
One K helmets
I love love my One K. It's amazing quality that is half the price of a samshield.
One K helmets
I've got a OneK because I like the pricepoint and the replacement policy. If money was no object, I'd consider a CO or a Samshield. The GPA never fit me well–too round
One K Defender with MIPS
I loved my Samshield but when I retired it, I got a One K Defender with MIPS. It fits great and they have a sun visor option.
A rider ready to buy whichever fit better ended up in a One K, another says a One K is worth trying if the Samshield does not fit, and riders praise the snug, even fit.
One K helmets
I CANNOT fit in a CO. I tried both Samshield and One K (was prepared to buy whatever fit better), and it was the One K.
One K helmets
Just a suggestion to throw in there, if the Samshield does not fit try the One K. They have very similar features and the fit is slightly different.
One K helmets
Luckily, it fit perfectly, snug all the way around with no pressure points and perfectly snug. I loved it the minute I tried it on.
One K helmets
The fit of the One K is excellent, and is definitely one of the best helmets I’ve owned.
Riders call their One K the most comfortable helmet they have owned, much cooler than the helmets they wore before, and good-looking on.
Finally! A helmet that fits well AND looks good on. I've been riding for over 40 years and this is the prefect schooling helmet. Well done OneK!
One K helmets
It is the most comfortable helmet I've owned in 50 years of riding. It sits just right - not too low and not too high on top of my head.
One K helmets
One k. Cooler than my Tipperary sportage was, much cooler than my ayr8, love the washable liner. Love the fit- only helmet I've ever worn where I forget I'm wearing a helmet.
One K helmets
I've got a OneK now, after having COs for years. I really love how much cooler it is; the first time I wore it, the airflow was noticeable.
Side by side
Samshield builds around one shell family with three liners and a configurator, and One K builds around two shell shapes, swappable liners and CCS parts. Samshield's details are the maker's.
| What you compare | Samshield | One K we carry | Honest note |

Fit tip
Wrap a soft tape measure about an inch above your eyebrows, compare front-to-back with ear to ear, and pick Regular/Round if they are close or Long Oval if front-to-back is longer.Fit first

One K's Defender Helmet and Defender Suede Helmet come in Regular/Round, for a head with almost identical front-to-back and side-to-side measurements, and in Long Oval, for a head longer front-to-back than it is ear to ear. Samshield instead keeps one shell family and offers three liners, Round, Shadow and Premium, to match head shape.
Riders tell us the One K shapes reach heads other helmets miss: one calls it the only helmet that fits her oval-shaped head, and another says her long oval head fits really well where a JR8 was not quite long enough. If your head falls between the two shapes, try both on.
In fairness
Samshield's liners are shaped to head shape, and some riders find a Samshield fits them a little better. Trying both settles it.Second one I am buying (to get a clean one for shows). It's the only one that fits my oval-shaped head! Love it.
One K. It fits my lonnnng oval head- almost a block head LOL, really well. My JR8 wasn’t quite long enough- this is perfect.

Shop all ›Liners
One K Defender helmets use a washable, quick-dry, moisture-wicking, anti-microbial liner that you can swap, and Samshield uses replaceable memory-foam liners sold separately. Both brands treat the liner as the fine-tuning part of the fit.
On One K you can buy a Defender Refit Liner or a CCS MIPS Refit Liner on its own, and the Defender closes with hook-and-loop adjustment and a Fastex buckle, so you can tune the fit at the back of the head. Riders tell us washable, swappable liners matter to them: one says a One K and a Samshield Shadowmatt both offer them, and another buys extra liners so wearing her hair up no longer changes the fit.
In fairness
Samshield sells its three liners separately too, so changing the liner is not a One K exclusive.OneK and Samshield (shadow matt) both fit me well, and both offer washable, interchangeable liners
I personally find this perfect as I can buy more than one liner and no longer have to deal with the different fit that is caused by wearing my hair up or in a pony…
Brims and juniors

The One K Avance Wide Brim and MIPS CCS Avance Wide Brim are the wide-brim helmets to hold up against a Samshield Miss Shield, and the MIPS Jr CCS covers junior riders. One K lists the Avance brim for sun and glare, and Samshield lists a long visor on Miss Shield.
The Avance Wide Brim adds the brim to the Defender, in the same Regular/Round and Long Oval shapes, and the MIPS CCS Avance adds MIPS and CCS compatibility so the look can change later. For smaller riders, the MIPS Jr CCS Helmet runs X-Small (5 7/8 to 6), Small (6 1/8 to 6 1/4) and Medium (6 3/8 to 6 1/2), with a smaller internal diameter, a thicker padded liner and a 15mm shorter chin strap, and the Defender Jr Helmet is the other junior choice.
In fairness
Miss Shield's long visor is a distinct look, so put the two brims side by side before you choose.Make it yours

One K customizes with its CCS color system: the MIPS CCS Helmet and the Avance MIPS CCS take swap-in top panels, front shields and vent stripe rails, while Samshield customizes through a configurator and custom orders. The maker lists 1,000+ configurator combinations and finishes such as Alcantara, Darkline and Swarovski crystal.
The One K parts are separate products you can browse: a CCS Top Panel, a CCS Front Shield and a CCS Vent Stripe Rail, in colors such as Celestial Blue and Navy Galaxy. That means a One K can change look later with a new panel, where a Samshield configuration is chosen at the time of the order.
In fairness
Samshield's range of materials and finishes is wider, and the maker lists crystal options One K does not match.Shop One K MIPS CCS helmets
Shop all ›Keeping cool
The One K Defender has seven vents (two side, two front, one back and two center stripe), and the Samshield maker lists six-point ventilation, so vent counts alone do not settle which helmet rides cooler. Riders weigh airflow differently, so try each on in person.
Riders tell us One K stays cool: one calls hers much cooler than the helmets she wore before, and another noticed the airflow the first time she wore it. The Defender Helmet and the Avance Wide Brim Helmet share the vent layout, and the brim adds shade at the front.
In fairness
Samshield's six-point ventilation is the maker's own design, which is why trying both on in person matters.Independent lab ratings
Virginia Tech's helmet lab rates 54 helmets in its 2026 equestrian table, and Trauma Void's NEOZ EQ3 and Lynx Eventing MIPS lead the helmets we carry with 4 stars, sixth and seventh. Its table also rates Samshield's Shadowmatt and One K's Defender and Avance models.

Where to start
Try the One K Defender in the shape that matches your measurements first, then try a Samshield in person if you want both on your head. Measure around your head about an inch above your eyebrows, compare front-to-back with ear to ear, and pick Regular/Round or Long Oval to match.
Check that the helmet sits level and snug with no pressure points at the temples or forehead, then shake your head side to side and nod; if it shifts, try a different liner or the other shape before the next size up. Riders tell us trying both settles it: one was ready to buy whichever fit better and it was the One K, and another suggests a One K if a Samshield does not fit.
In fairness
If budget is no object, or you would rather own one Samshield than two or three helmets, try the Samshield first. In fairness
Samshield is the show-ring helmet many riders picture first, built around finish, materials and a liner system, and its strengths are real.
If you want a configurator with Alcantara, Darkline or Swarovski finishes, Samshield's custom range is wider than any One K.
If you want one shell with three liners shaped to head shape, Samshield's Round, Shadow and Premium liners are built for that.
If you want the maker's inner-shell Restart service, Samshield offers it for up to five years.
If a Samshield fit you better or rode cooler for you, trust that, as some riders report it does.
Not always. The Samshield maker lists three liners, Round, Shadow and Premium, on one shell family, while One K makes Regular/Round and Long Oval shells. Riders tell us a long oval One K fits heads other helmets miss. Compare your front-to-back and ear-to-ear measurements, then try both.
CloseYes. The One K Defender and the Avance Wide Brim come in Long Oval, shaped for a head longer front-to-back than ear to ear. Measure front-to-back and ear to ear, then match the shape.
CloseYes. The One K CCS color system lets you swap top panels, front shields and vent stripe rails on the MIPS CCS Helmet and the Avance MIPS CCS. Choose the helmet first, then browse the CCS parts in the colors you like.
CloseYes. The Avance Wide Brim and MIPS CCS Avance Wide Brim carry the brim, and the MIPS Jr CCS and Defender Jr cover junior riders, in sizes from X-Small to Medium. Measure the rider's head, then pick the size.
CloseRiders disagree. Some find a One K cooler on hot days, and others find a Samshield cooler. The Defender has seven vents and the Samshield maker lists six-point ventilation, so try each on in person.
CloseRiders comparing Samshield with One K often ask about other Samshield models, other head-to-head comparisons and what riders try when a favorite helmet brand is hard to find. These pages go further.
