Shires · ARMA
Shires ARMA is Shires Equestrian's performance line for the horse: brushing, tendon and over reach boots, saddle pads, girths, halters and ear bonnets. Riders tell us they come back to ARMA for gear that washes well and stays put.

Riders tell us ARMA gear earns its place by lasting: boots that survive the washing machine for years, pads that stay put, and girths their horses prefer.
Shires ARMA Neoprene Over Reach Boots
★★★★★
I adored these boots, I have used them consistently for the last 6 years, every three days I fling them in the washing machine with the other horsey wash stuff and they come up new every time. I've just bought some more pairs to have fancy white ones for the upcoming show season.
I have multiple saddle pads from this brand and I love how classy and simple they look. They are a great shape that comes up at the withers and down by the girth. They are super easy to clean and they are breathable for the horse. It is my go to brand for a saddle pad!
Shires ARMA over reach (bell) boots
These are the Goldilocks bell boots--sturdy enough that they hold up reasonably but not so hard and stiff that they cause rubs. My mare is out 24/7. She is hard on her bell boots, and these will eventually wear out.
Great product. Keeps horse's legs clean during movement in pasture. Super tough velcro. Easy to wash.

Our customers lean on ARMA most for everyday riding: boots and pads that go through the washing machine week after week and still look smart enough for a show.
ARMA boots are the biggest part of the line: about half of the ARMA styles we carry are boots. Brushing boots (Air Motion, Contour Pro, Neoprene and OXI-ZONE) cover everyday schooling and hacking. For jumping, each line pairs an open-front tendon boot with a matching fetlock boot (ARMA, Carbon, OXI-ZONE and Vortex), and the Carbon Front and Hind XC boots wrap the whole lower leg for cross-country. Over reach boots come in classic rubber, fleece-trim, soft-top, gloss and lighter neoprene. After work, the Subzero Ice, Hot/Cold Relief and Magnetic boots fit at the barn.
Sizes run Small Pony to X Large Horse, and each style has its own Shires chart. Every boot, chart and rider review is on the ARMA horse boots page. See every Shires ARMA horse boot and size chart ›

Shires ARMA Air Motion Brushing Boots
★★★★★
I own quite a few pairs of these boots. They're my go-to for leg protection on my cow ponies. They're super soft, light, breathable and VERY easy to clean. The Velcro stays strong and the material is super durable. I love them and will continue to buy them.
Shires ARMA Air Motion Brushing Boots
I love my Shires Arma Air Motion boots for every day. Breathable, washable, dry quickly and not too expensive. I’ve tossed them in the washing machine and they come out looking great. I also own LeMieux fleece lined, which are great, but totally impractical if your horse sweats a lot/it’s hot out.
ARMA cuts each pad to a saddle shape, so start with your saddle flap: a long, straight dressage drop, a forward-cut jump or close contact pad, or the in-between all purpose shape. Then choose the finish: Elegance and Satin for the show ring, Deluxe Cotton for a classic quilt, Lite for everyday riding. Compare every Shires and ARMA saddle pad ›
A long drop for a dressage saddle's straight flap. The Performance Dressage pad has a WickAway stay-dry lining and D-ring billet straps; the Satin and Deluxe Cotton pads are the dressy ones, and the Lite Dressage pad is the easy-care schooling choice.
Forward-cut pads for a close contact or jumping saddle. Elegance 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 differ in the quilting (square, linear or chevron) and share an Ultra Dri-Zone lining and a metal ARMA badge; the Satin Jump pad adds a satin top.
The all purpose shape suits most general purpose saddles. The Air Motion Luxe is the warm-weather pad, with open airflow fabric and hexagonal quilting; the SupaFleece and Acrilan pads are shaped to the saddle with a fleece underside. The Lite (in the best sellers above) is sized Pony/Cob and Cob/Horse.
A half pad goes over your saddle pad and under the saddle. The Corrective Half Pad, Corrective Lined Half Pad and Corrective Saddle Pad have four pockets and come with three sets of low-compression shims you add or take out as your horse changes shape; the Shaped Pad with Corrective Shims (in the best sellers above) does the same in one pad. The Deluxe Cotton Half Pad has a SupaFleece underside.
Cushion and shims over your favorite pad
ARMA girths are the technical side of Shires girths. The anatomic girths (SupaFleece, Performance, Anti-Chafe Anatomic and the Removable Neoprene) are cut back at the elbow; the dressage girths (Memory Foam, Performance and Anti-Chafe) are short girths for long billets, with elastic at the ends on most styles; and the AirFlow Memory Foam, Anti-Chafe and Neoprene Western cinches run 26 to 36 inches. The SupaFleece Girth Sleeve slips over a girth you already own.
Long girths run 30 to 60 inches and dressage girths 18 to 30 inches, in 2-inch steps. All three Shires girth families are compared on the Shires girths page. See all Shires, ARMA and Velociti girths ›

It's a cheaper option but my horse loves his Arma girth like this one. I tried the Fairfax girth but he prefers this girth by far.
Shires ARMA Supafleece Anatomic Girth
Good quality and comfortable for my short backed Morgan/QH. So far it is easy to care for and keeps the saddle from slipping. I love the chocolate brown, too.
ARMA halters (Shires calls them headcollars) come in four sizes, Pony, Cob, Horse and Large Horse. The Fleece and Comfy Fleece headcollars are padded with fleece at the nose and poll for sensitive horses, and the Fleece Headcollar & Lead Rope comes as a matching set. The Premium Nylon Halter adds leather padding, and the Adjustable and Non Adjustable Nylon halters are the everyday ones, in bright colors to match your ARMA boots and pads. There is also a Rope Halter & Lead Set and a SupaFleece Halter Set of slip-on fleece covers.

Shires ARMA SupaFleece Halter Set
Easy to wash, provide a nice amount of padding on areas of a halter that may rub
I use the Shires ARMA ones; they are really good quality - nice colours too! I will only use this type of headcollar, hate the ones with the loose ring at the back and like to be able to take the headcollar off from under a bridle.
The rest of ARMA is the gear you reach for every day at the barn. The ARMA Ear Bonnet is a crochet bonnet with fabric ears, and the Calm Noise Reducing Ear Net has ears that Shires designed to muffle sharp noises. Tail guards (SupaFleece, and one with a tail bag) keep a tail tidy for travel, the neoprene ARMA Mud Socks cover the lower leg in the field, and Pastern Wraps sit around the pastern. You will also find the Mesh Fly Boots, H2O Cool Therapy Boots, a touch-close Breakaway Trailer Tie, an Extra Long Cotton Lunge Line, Rolled Rope Draw Reins and a SupaFleece Chin Guard.

Shires ARMA Breakaway Trailer Tie
These ties are perfect. I have an awkward tie up pole outside my stable, and I don't like using baling twine, so these are exactly what I want, secure but will break away if there's a problem.

Excellent quality and value for money. Giving me peace of mind when my horse is tied up
Start with the job, then pick the ARMA line built for it. Many riders keep one set for riding and another for the field.
| The job | ARMA picks | Why riders choose them |
|---|---|---|
| Everyday schooling | Air Motion Brushing Boots, Lite Saddle Pad, SupaFleece Anatomic Girth | Light, washable and quick to put on |
| Hot days | Air Motion and OXI-ZONE boots, Air Motion Luxe Saddle Pad | Built around airflow: open mesh and vented shells |
| Show jumping | Carbon, OXI-ZONE or Vortex tendon and fetlock boots; Elegance Jump pad | Open-front boots with matching pairs, a forward-cut pad |
| Dressage | Performance or Satin Dressage pad, Memory Foam Dressage Girth | A long drop for a straight flap, a short girth for long billets |
| Turnout | Over Reach, Soft Top or Fleece Trim boots; Mud Socks | Riders tell us the rubber bells last in the field |
| A back that is changing shape | Shaped Pad with Corrective Shims or a Corrective Half Pad | Shims go in or come out as the horse muscles up |
ARMA uses three size systems. Boots, halters and ear bonnets go by the size of the horse, most saddle pads go by your saddle's seat size, and girths go by the inch. Shires's own charts use the UK names Full, Extra Full and XX Full; on Tack of the Day those are Horse, Large Horse and X Large Horse.

To measure for a girth, tack up with your own saddle and pad and measure under the horse from the middle hole of the billets on one side to the middle hole on the other, then round to the nearest even inch. For a saddle pad, measure the seat from the nail head beside the pommel to the center of the cantle.
Size runs are the full run each style is made in, from the Tack of the Day catalog (October 2026), not what is in stock today. Boot charts are Shires Equestrian's, in centimeters with inches added.
These boots are great - I'm lazy and hate doing polos for quick flat rides and these give my mare superb protection and are on and off in a snap. Clean super easily. The full size fits my 16.3 mare perfectly.
I highly recommend the Shires Arma Rubber ones. They are like the old fashioned thick rubber. My horse was in heart bars for a period of time and these were fantastic, really hard-wearing and did not rub at all! Tend to go up a size for turnout.
Yes. ARMA is a line from Shires Equestrian, the family-owned company that has made horse gear since 1968 in Leominster, Herefordshire, with a US office in Epping, New Hampshire. On Tack of the Day its gear is listed as Shires ARMA.
ARMA covers gear for the horse: brushing, tendon, fetlock, cross-country, over reach and therapy boots; dressage, jump, all purpose and half pads; anatomic, dressage and Western girths; halters and lead ropes; ear bonnets; tail guards; mud socks; and barn extras such as trailer ties and lunge lines.
Boots are sized Small Pony, Pony, Cob, Horse, Large Horse and X Large Horse; Horse, Large Horse and X Large Horse are Shires's Full, Extra Full and XX Full. Measure the leg and compare it with the chart for the exact style, because the same size name measures differently from line to line.
Most ARMA pads are sized by your saddle's seat size, 15-16.5" or 17-18", and the shaped pads come in 16-16.5", 17-17.5" and 18". Measure the seat from the nail head beside the pommel to the center of the cantle. The ARMA Lite pad is sized Pony/Cob and Cob/Horse instead.
Air Motion boots are built from a light, open 3D mesh; OXI-ZONE boots have a vented outer shell with metal-mesh-lined vent channels; and Carbon boots have a TPU shell over a honeycomb foam center with a CoolMax lining. Air Motion is the everyday schooling line, while OXI-ZONE and Carbon each have tendon and fetlock pairs for jumping.
Shires lists its ARMA saddle pads, such as the Air Motion Luxe, Elegance and Corrective pads, as machine washable. Riders tell us they wash their ARMA brushing and over reach boots too: one has washed the same neoprene over reach boots every few days for six years. Check the care line on each product page first.
Tack up with your own saddle and pad, then measure under the horse from the middle hole of the billets on one side to the middle hole on the other and round to the nearest even inch. ARMA long girths run 30 to 60 inches, dressage girths 18 to 30 inches and Western cinches 26 to 36 inches.
