Winter Boots for Barn and Saddle

Insulated and waterproof styles for cold rides and chores.

The Footwear Edit

Five boots for every part of a rider’s day

01

Tall Boots

Field or dress: the boot that finishes the look

Field boots lace at the ankle so they flex over fences, and dress boots have a taller, stiffer shaft for the dressage ring. Calf fit and height matter more than the size on the box, and leather drops a little as it breaks in.

Quick answerField boots for hunters and jumpers, dress boots for dressage. Fit the calf first.

Tall Boots for Schooling and Showing

  • Tredstep Medici II Field Boot

    ★★★★★
Beautiful boots. I bought the US size 9 short. A little tall for a "short" at around 17" but the leather is soft and will drop some. I usually need a 16.5" height. For 50% off I highly recommend!

  • Shires Moretta Women's Rosetta Paddock Boots

    ★★★★★
These boots are the only boots that comfortably fit my very wide foot. All areas and other brands end up being quite painful. Very good value for money, this will be my fourth and fifth pair that I have purchased. I stock up because I’m fearful, I won’t be able to get them in the future

  • Horze Women's Aspen Winter Tall Boots

    ★★★★★
I bought these boots 7 years ago. I have ridden and done chores in them every year since and they still look and feel great!

  • Ovation Blizzard Original Winter Tall Boot

    ★★★★★
This was a decent price for boots that are incredibly high quality and warm! A must for riding in the North in the winter.

  • TuffRider Women's Double Clear Sport Tall Boots

    ★★★★★
These boots are great, they run a little big so really check those measurements... The more athletic "shoe" design makes them perfect for long days working and riding. Comfortable, breathable, and great looking

  • Horze Genve Teenage Tall Dress Boots

    ★★★★★
Having a thin young teen rider, we had trouble finding a tall dress boot that fit her leg. The teenage size fit her well and solved our problem. I’m so glad you carried this option.

What is the difference between field boots and dress boots?

Field boots have laces at the front of the ankle, so they flex for a shorter stirrup and over fences; hunter and jumper riders usually wear them. Dress boots have a plain, stiffer shaft that supports a long leg, which is why they are the classic choice for dressage.

How should tall boots fit?

Snug around the calf and ankle, with the top sitting close behind the knee. A new leather boot usually drops a little as it breaks in, so it should start slightly tall. Check the foot size, calf width and height on each size chart.

How do I break in new tall boots?

Wear them around the house and for short rides at first, and keep the leather clean and conditioned. Many riders use heel lifts during break-in until the boot drops to its final height.

Half chaps or tall boots?

Paddock boots with half chaps are comfortable for everyday riding and barn work, and easy to take on and off. Tall boots are the standard for the show ring and give a cleaner look.

Do I need a bigger size for winter boots?

Many riders size winter boots to fit with a thicker sock. Check the brand’s size chart and the product reviews for notes on fit.
