Ballistic Nylon Turnouts, From No-Fill to 450g

Every Rambo turnout has a waterproof, breathable ballistic nylon outer. Most styles use 1000D, and the Supreme, 1680D and 1680D Wug turnouts step up to 1680D, which Horseware rates 120% stronger, with a slick surface that resists bites and tears from field mates. Safety surcingles hold the blanket in place and are made to break in an emergency.

Choose your weight from no-fill sheets to 450g heavyweights, then add a matching hood or a liner as the season turns. Many Rambo turnouts have liner loops, and the Optimo liners clip in to add warmth without a second blanket.

Who makes Rambo?

Rambo is made by Horseware Ireland, which Tom and Carol MacGuinness founded in 1985 in Dundalk, Ireland. Horseware also makes Amigo and Rhino blankets and Micklem bridles.

What does the Rambo guarantee cover?

Horseware's 10-year Turnout Guarantee covers waterproofing, breathability and hardware on select Rambo turnouts and hoods bought on or after January 1, 2024. It doesn't cover rips or tears, and every Rambo also carries Horseware's standard 2-year warranty. Register your blanket with Horseware after you buy it.

What is the difference between 1000D and 1680D?

Denier measures how tough the outer fabric is. Most Rambo turnouts use 1000D ballistic nylon. The Supreme, 1680D and 1680D Wug turnouts use 1680D, which Horseware rates 120% stronger, for horses that are hard on their blankets.

What is a Wug turnout?

Wug is Rambo's higher-cut neck design. It suits horses with a narrow build and high withers, where a standard neck can press or slip back.

Can I add a liner to a Rambo turnout?

Yes, on styles with liner loops. The Optimo liners, for example, attach at the neck with touch-tape loops and clip at the back corners, so you can add warmth without buying a second blanket.

How do I size a Rambo blanket?

Measure your horse from the center of the chest, along the side, to the point of the buttock, and pick the size in inches that matches. Check the size chart on each blanket's page, and read our Horse Blanket Guide for help choosing a fill weight.

Rambo: A Better Turnout Blanket, Since 1985

Rambo began with a problem many horse owners knew: turnout blankets that leaked, slipped and made horses sweat. Tom MacGuinness set out to build one that stayed dry, stayed put and let the horse breathe, and the result was the Rambo Original, made from tough ballistic nylon.

In 1985 Tom and his wife, Carol, founded Horseware Ireland in Dundalk, where its products are still designed and developed. Rambo is Horseware's flagship line, with Original, Wug, Optimo, Duo and Supreme turnouts, stable wear, coolers and fly protection.
