The Shires family splits its horse gear by job. Shires ARMA is the horse-wear line: brushing, tendon and over reach boots, saddle pads sized by saddle, girths, and fleece-lined halters in shared colors. Shires Velociti is the anatomical leather line, with Rapida and Lusso bridles that take pressure off the poll and face, plus girths, breastplates and halters to match.
Shires Avignon is the classic leather line for breastplates, martingales and bridles, and Shires Aviemore adds browbands. Shires FlyGuard makes the fly masks. Shires Tempest & Highlander
Shires blankets, sheets and coolers: turnouts for the field, layers for the barn
The Shires Tempest Original turnouts have a 600 denier ripstop outer with taped seams and a PFC-free ShireTex water repellent finish, adjustable chest buckles, cross surcingles, a tail strap and tail flap. Choose the Lite for warmer wet weather or the 200g for medium warmth.
The Highlander Plus turnouts come in 200g and 300g fills, with spacious shoulder gussets for freedom of movement and an optional neck cover sold separately. For tough conditions, the StormCheeta set has a 1680 denier ShireTex outer and 200g of fill. To add warmth without buying a new blanket, a Shires Warma 100g liner attaches inside compatible turnouts.
In the barn, the Tempest Plus stable blanket has a 1200 denier outer in Lite, 100g and 200g fills, and the Tempest Original Stable Sheet is a breathable, close-weave layer that keeps the coat shiny for show prep. After exercise or a bath, the Tempest fleece cooler, the deep-pile Ultra Dry Cooler and the lightweight Mesh and Scrim coolers wick moisture away so the horse dries without chilling, and the Deluxe Tech Cooler and Deluxe Air Motion Cooler look smart at shows and on the road. For low-light rides and hunting season, the blaze orange Equi-Flector Mesh Exercise Sheet has reflective strips and packs small.

The ARMA Air Motion Brushing Boots are ultra lightweight, with Air Motion mesh that lets air move around the leg and a strike-resistant pad on the inside. The ARMA Carbon tendon boots use a TPU outer, a honeycomb foam center and a breathable CoolMax lining, and the OXI-ZONE range adds directional venting to dissipate heat.

I love my Shires Arma Air Motion boots for every day. Breathable, washable, dry quickly and not too expensive. I’ve tossed them in the washing machine and they come out looking great. I also own LeMieux fleece lined, which are great, but totally impractical if your horse sweats a lot/it’s hot out.

These are the Goldilocks bell boots--sturdy enough that they hold up reasonably but not so hard and stiff that they cause rubs. My mare is out 24/7. She is hard on her bell boots, and these will eventually wear out.

The Velociti Lusso line uses European aniline-dyed leather for hunter cavesson, flash, grackle and dressage bridles, plus matching breastplates and laced reins.

Shires girths: anatomic, dressage, fleece and leather
Shires makes girths under three names. Shires ARMA girths are the soft, washable choice: the Supafleece Anatomic, the Memory Foam Dressage, the Anti-Chafe girths with elastic and the Removable Neoprene girth, with Western cinches in neoprene and AirFlow memory foam. Shires Velociti Lusso girths are anatomical, contoured leather in Havana and black, in dressage and long lengths.
Under the Shires name come the Fleece Lined Girth, the Memory Foam Girth, the Airflow Girth and the Salisbury Atherstone leather girth. Riders with big warmbloods look here because the Shires Fleece Lined Girth goes up to 58 inches, past where many girths stop.

Shires Velociti Lusso Dressage Girth
I absolutely love this girth. The leather is super soft, feels high quality and it's nice and cushy. Contours perfectly so my horse is comfortable for our entire ride. Would consider this a fantastic dupe for the LeMieux dressage girth. Only con is that this girth does run a bit large. My guy normally needs a 24" so I ordered a 24" but it was too big. Sent it back and got a 22" and it fits perfectly.
Very happy with my Shires memory foam girth. Excellent quality, very comfortable for my horse.

The Velociti Lusso Leather Breakaway Padded Halter is anatomically shaped at the head and nose to disperse pressure, with soft cushioned leather padding and European aniline-dyed leather. The Shires Topaz is a breakaway nylon halter for daily use, with contrast padding, an adjustable headpiece and nose and a clip-on throat latch.
Shires ARMA halters include nylon halters with leather details and fleece-lined headcollars in a run of colors, with lead ropes to match. Shires lead ropes come in heavy duty cotton, two-tone poly and extra long lengths, and the Velociti Leather/Poly lead rope pairs with the Lusso halters.

Shires Topaz Leather Breakaway Nylon Halter
Just moved to a barn this year, requiring halters stay on during turnout. One of my horses broke 4 breakaway leather crown pieces in 2 months, while my other horse who had this Shires Topaz style never broke his halter. So I bought this Shires style for the rough housing horse and he's had it for 4 months now and hasn't broken it yet. It's chewed up, but holding on! Will definitely buy again.

For the hunter ring, the Shires hunter dee bits come with a French link, a copper lozenge, a slow twist or the Equikind lozenge. The Equikind+ Peanut Link Full Cheek pairs a lozenge, which Shires says encourages a softer contact, with full cheeks to help with steering.
Shires sweet iron bits, such as the Copper Lozenge Snaffle, produce a sweet taste and encourage salivation as they oxidize; the copper lozenge with loose rings makes a relatively mild training bit. Gags and pelhams such as the Two Ring Gag and the Double Jointed Pelham give more control for strong horses, and Shires molded silicone bit guards and Avignon bit keepers finish the set.

This is a great bit for a horse with a sensitive mouth, my hot thoroughbred who generally hates bit pressure goes really well in it.
My mare is VERY picky about what bits she likes. I've gone through many a bits in my budget, but none worked for her...until I tried this one on her. She LOVES it.

Shires Avignon tack is made in leather with distinctive stitching, from the classic Three Point Breastplate with elastic shoulder inserts to the Five Point Breastplate, running and standing martingales and the attachments that convert one to the other. The Avignon German Martingale with continental web reins is a training favorite.
Shires Velociti adds the Rapida and Lusso breastplates and running and standing martingales to match Velociti bridles, the Fancy Square Raised martingales for the hunter ring, and the Velociti GARA Neck Strap with a padded handle for riding young or sharp horses.
I'm very picky with my tack, especially my leather, so is my trainer, and both of us love this piece more than any out there for everyday and even showing! Sizing is very accurate, quality is durable and sturdy yet subtle leather. Strong yet sleek hardware that shines beautifully in the sun.

Wasn't sure what the quality on this would be, but I wanted a German Martingale and I shopped around and decided to chance it. It's a great buy for the money. I like that the reins are webbed.

Shires FreeGraze grazing muzzles
This is a very durable and well made grazing muzzle and halter. Designed to allow the horse comfortable, limited access to pasture grass. Both the crown and throatlatch have rubberized wide protection. It's the third grazing muzzle I have purchased for my Cushing's mare. I wish I had discovered this one first.
It works really well to reduce intake but still allows them to graze lightly. I have a flexible filly muzzle too but find it tends to get clogged inside with soil and in wet weather with mud if your grazing is patchy. The Shires doesn't do that.

Digby & Fox by Shires: dog coats, collars, leads and harnesses
The Digby & Fox Waterproof Dog Coat has a waterproof shell with 200 grams of fill, a belly band closure, elastic leg straps and a reflective stripe, and it works with a harness; the Lite Waterproof Dog Coat is the lighter version. The Equi-Flector dog coat is blaze orange with reflective strips for walks at dusk. Leather collars come flat, padded or rolled, with leads to match, and the tweed collars, leads and blankets use a classic country check.
Measure your dog along the back from the base of the neck to the base of the tail for a coat, and around the neck where the collar sits for a collar. Owners tell us the collars and harnesses can run generous, so measure before you order.

Every Shires horse line has its own size run. Blankets are sized in inches from the center of the chest to the point of the buttock; boots, bridles and halters run Pony to Large or XL Horse; saddle pads match your saddle; girths are measured buckle to buckle. What fill weight Shires turnout blanket do I need?
Shires turnouts come with no fill (Lite), 200g and 300g of fill. Many owners use a lite turnout for wet, mild weather, 200g for cool, damp weather or a clipped horse, and 300g for the coldest days. A Shires Warma liner adds 100g of warmth inside compatible turnouts.
Are Shires Tempest turnout blankets waterproof?
Yes. Shires Tempest Original turnouts have a waterproof, breathable 600 denier ripstop outer with taped seams and a PFC-free ShireTex water repellent finish.
What sizes do Shires horse blankets come in?
Shires horse blankets come in US sizes from 33 to 87 inches in 3-inch steps, measured from the center of the chest to the point of the buttock. The Shires blanket size chart converts each size to UK feet and inches.
How do I size Shires ARMA saddle pads?
Shires ARMA saddle pads are sized by saddle size, so choose the pad size that matches your saddle. The size chart on each pad shows which saddle sizes it fits.
What are Shires ARMA over reach boots made of?
Shires ARMA Over Reach Boots are made from 6mm rubber with a rubber-covered touch close fastening. Fleece Trim and Soft Top versions add a softer edge at the top of the boot.
Does Shires make stable blankets, sheets and coolers?
Yes. Shires makes Tempest Plus stable blankets with Lite, 100g and 200g fills, Tempest Original and Deluxe stable sheets, and a range of coolers: fleece, deep-pile Ultra Dry, mesh, scrim, Deluxe Tech and Deluxe Air Motion.
