What riders say about the Star Lady, and the helmets they chose

Riders tell us sizing and shape are what send them looking beyond the Star Lady, even when they love the look.

New sizing, or a shape that didn't suit

One rider's new Star Lady feels snug in her old size 56, another was caught out by the new sizing, and others found the shell too round or disliked the harness at the back.

KASK Star Lady

I wore a 56 in my old star lady and the new star lady feels incredibly snug.

KASK helmets

I just ordered a new kask to replace an old one after a fall and am totally confused and was unaware of their new sizing? Did most of you stay in your original size?
Rider review · 2019

KASK helmets

Kask was too round for me - too bad because they're beautiful. Also, I've heard the head cupping thing is removable.

KASK helmets

I personally hated the feel of Kask - there was a harness or something in the back

The sleek show look, a price tier lower

One rider says her Crown MIPS has the sleek look of a more expensive helmet, and a parent says the Avance Wide Brim looks like the super expensive helmets.

Equinavia Crown MIPS Riding Helmet

I've worn this helmet for a few months, and I'm still happy with my purchase. It has the sleek look of a more expensive helmet without the price tag. Fits great on my head -- which I would say is on the oval side -- with the ability to dial in a perfect fit. It's lightweight and is much cooler than the Charles Owen helmet I used to wear in our over 90-degree summers.

Fits my daughter really well and has an elegant look like the super expensive helmets, love the ability to add color and switch out the accent plates.

A lower profile that wraps around

A rider who likes her KASK tried both Trauma Void helmets and preferred the Lynx, and another calls her Lynx the most comfortable helmet she has owned.

Trauma Void EQ3 and Lynx

I have a Kask that I like and fits well, then I tried the TraumaVoids – both the EQ3 and Lynx. Both fit very well, but I prefer the Lynx. It is lower profile and seems to wrap around more.

Trauma Void Lynx

I have a Trauma Void Lynx and it’s the MOST comfortable helmet I’ve ever had (CO always fit me well too).

Star Lady vs the helmets we carry: look, MIPS and fit system

KASK builds the Star Lady Hunter around a self-adjusting rear cradle and click-in liners, while the helmets below adjust with a dial, a wheel or swap-in liners. KASK's details are from its own page, checked November 2026; the others are as each maker lists them.

Price tiers

Which helmet to try for each Star Lady look, by price tier

The Star Lady sits above every pick here, so each swap is a step down in price.

Price tiers among these picks: $ (lowest) to $$$$ (highest)

If you like the Star Lady'sTryWhy riders choose it
Matte Hunter, low lineA smooth, low shell with a dial or wheel at the back.
Chrome or crystal trimA shiny frame and crystal accent with a wider brim.
Wide brimA brim that shades the face, with liners to tune the fit.
Wide brim, everydayA dial-fit wide brim for schooling days.
Room for hair upAn easy-adjust dial; the Skylar adds a ponytail cut-out.

Fit tip

Wrap a soft tape about an inch above your eyebrows and note the centimeters, then compare front-to-back with ear to ear. Check the number against each maker's chart, since none matches KASK's.

The clean line

Low, clean profile: Trauma Void Lynx Smooth Top and EQ3 NEOZ

A rider in a black Trauma Void Lynx Smooth Top helmet beside a grey horse at the stable door
Trauma Void Lynx Smooth Top Helmet

The Trauma Void Lynx Smooth Top and EQ3 NEOZ are the helmets we carry with the lowest, cleanest line next to a Star Lady: a smooth top, a dial or wheel at the back and a removable, washable Coolmax liner, with MIPS listed by Trauma Void on both.

The Lynx Smooth Top has a round fit in small, medium and large, vents front and back, and Trauma Void lists it at about 600 grams, against the 580 g KASK lists for the Star Lady Hunter. The EQ3 NEOZ adds a magnetic fastener you close with one hand, and Trauma Void lists SEI ASTM F1163-23 certification.

In fairness

Neither Trauma Void has a wide brim. If the brim is what you love about the Star Lady, start with the next section.

The wide brim

The wide-brim hunter look: Equinavia Crown, One K Avance, IRH F1

An IRH F1 Wide Brim helmet in black leather with a gloss black frame
IRH F1 Wide Brim Helmet

The Equinavia Crown MIPS, the One K MIPS CCS Avance Wide Brim and the IRH F1 Wide Brim are the helmets we carry with a brim that shades the face like a Star Lady Hunter. Equinavia lists the Crown MIPS as ASTM F1163-23/SEI and CE EN 1384:2023 certified, the same two standards KASK lists for the Star Lady Hunter, with a dial fit and a shiny frame in finishes from matte black to crystal.

The One K MIPS CCS Avance Wide Brim pairs the brim with MIPS and CCS parts you can swap later, and the One K Avance Wide Brim is the version without MIPS. IRH ships the F1 Wide Brim with two liner thicknesses, and TuffRider's Guardian Matte and Ultimate Wide Brim helmets bring a dial-fit brim to a lower tier.

In fairness

The Star Lady's merino padding and self-adjusting cradle are KASK's own; none of these copies that system, so try the fit in person.

Equinavia Crown MIPS Riding Helmet

I got the black and gunmetal, and it is one of the sleekest helmets I have ever owned. The brim is just wide enough to look attractive and be functional without it being overdone.
Rider review · 2026

IRH F1 Wide Brim Helmet

I really love that this helmet has a simple, yet elegant design that can be used while schooling or in the show ring. The Black with Gloss Frame accent (my personal favorite) gives it a little something while still maintaining that classic look. The low profile vents are also a HUGE plus for me - nothing bothers me more than vents that are protruding off of the helmet. These vents make it look bulky. Finish that off with the wide brim for additional sun coverage, and you have yourself a beautifully designed helmet. Aside from its looks, this helmet is SUPER lightweight, breathable, and fits perfectly snug to my head to the point where it almost feels like it's not even there. I also like that IRH provides both a 2mm and 3mm liner so that you can adjust sizing as needed, and not have to spend the extra dollar. Adjustability is key!

Hair up, round head or long oval: what to try instead

A rider in a navy Trauma Void EQ3 helmet holding her horse's reins
Trauma Void EQ3 Micromocca Helmet

For a round head, try the Trauma Void EQ3 NEOZ; for a long oval, the Trauma Void Pardus; and for hair worn up, a dial-fit helmet such as the Equinavia Skylar or Gardian. Measure about an inch above your eyebrows, compare front-to-back with ear to ear, then try the helmet on with your hair the way you ride.

The Equinavia Skylar has a ponytail cut-out and an easy-adjust dial, and the Gardian shares the dial and washable Coolmax liner. Trauma Void describes the Pardus as a slim fit for oblong heads, and One K makes the Avance in a Long Oval shell. Riders tell us dial fits and the right shell solve what the cradle didn't: one says her Gardian adjusts for hair up and down, and another with a very round head says the EQ3 fits super well.

In fairness

Some riders with very round heads find the Star Lady fits them better than anything else. If that is you, try the EQ3 NEOZ on before you decide.

Equinavia Gardian Riding Helmet

Just love this helmet. Looks great, very comfortable, love that it is adjustable (for hair up and hair down)
Rider review · 2025

IRH helmets

My helmet fits with my hair up and down, I tried it with my hair up, and again IT DOES fit me with my hair down
Rider review · 2015

Trauma Void EQ3

I've got a very round head and the Trauma Void EQ3 fits me super well. It's quite comfortable. It does have a washable liner and comes in navy!
Rider review · 2021

Trauma Void Pardus Smooth Helmet

my narrow and tall head has tried on almost every MIPS helmet at this point, including those that supposedly work for oval heads, and the Pardus is the first that feels 'oval' enough.

What the KASK Star Lady does well

The Star Lady is the show-hunter helmet many riders picture first, with a clean wide-brim line and a wide size run, and its strengths are real.

If you want single-centimeter sizing, KASK lists the Star Lady Hunter in 13 sizes from 51 to 63 cm.

If you like merino padding and click-in liners you can wash and swap, that is the Star Lady's own system.

If you want chrome, Pure Shine or crystal finishes on the same shape, KASK offers them on the Star Lady line.

If a Star Lady already fits your head well, trust that: riders with round heads say it fits them beautifully.
