Rider voices

What riders say about the helmets they chose over a KASK

Riders tell us fit decides it: a KASK owner preferred the lower Trauma Void Lynx, and riders with very round, very large or very small heads found helmets that fit.

A fit other helmets missed

A rider who liked her KASK tried both Trauma Void shells and preferred the lower Lynx; others found the Lynx, the EQ3 and the Crown MIPS fit heads that are tiny, very round or very large and oval.

Trauma Void EQ3 and Lynx

I have a Kask that I like and fits well, then I tried the TraumaVoids – both the EQ3 and Lynx. Both fit very well, but I prefer the Lynx. It is lower profile and seems to wrap around more.

Trauma Void Lynx

I tried on every brand of upscale helmet and the Lynx was by far the best fit for my tiny, kid sized head.

Equinavia Crown MIPS Riding Helmet

I have the Equinavia Crown MIPS helmet for my very large oval head and I love it. There's a limited range of brands where I live, I drove around a bunch of tack stores, tried on a few MIPS and CO models and none were right.
Rider review · 2026

Trauma Void EQ3

I've got a very round head and the Trauma Void EQ3 fits me super well. It's quite comfortable. It does have a washable liner and comes in navy!

Liners that change the fit

One rider buys more than one One K liner so wearing her hair up no longer changes the fit; another says the washable, exchangeable liner tipped the scales.

One K riding helmets

I personally find this perfect as I can buy more than one liner and no longer have to deal with the different fit that is caused by wearing my hair up or in a pony…
Rider review · 2015

One K riding helmets

I love the washable and exchangeable liner, and that was honestly what tipped the scales for me.

Comfortable, and good-looking on

Riders call the Lynx the most comfortable helmet they have owned, forget they are wearing their One K, and find the Crown MIPS and IRH helmets sleek and flattering.

Trauma Void Lynx

I have a Trauma Void Lynx and it’s the MOST comfortable helmet I’ve ever had (CO always fit me well too).
Rider review · 2026

One K riding helmets

One k. Cooler than my Tipperary sportage was, much cooler than my ayr8, love the washable liner. Love the fit- only helmet I've ever worn where I forget I'm wearing a helmet.
Rider review · 2016

Equinavia Crown MIPS, Black/Gunmetal

I got the black and gunmetal, and it is one of the sleekest helmets I have ever owned. The brim is just wide enough to look attractive and be functional without it being overdone.
Rider review · 2026

IRH riding helmets

I bought this helmet for my huge, English(hunter under saddle/equitation), AQHA classes. I needed an upgrade from an older helmet, and I needed something that would fit my head well, be comfortable throughout the whole class, and something that would look attractive, and not make my head look like a bowling ball.

Independent lab ratings

Virginia Tech's ratings for the helmets we carry

Virginia Tech's 2026 equestrian table of 54 helmets rates the Trauma Void NEOZ EQ3 at 4 stars, 6th, and the Trauma Void Pardus MIPS and Equinavia Gardian and Skylar at 3 stars. In the same table, KASK's Kooki Lady ranks 25th at 3 stars, and the Dogma and Star Lady rank 41st and 44th at 2 stars.

Ranks, stars and model names as Virginia Tech's 2026 equestrian table lists them (table checked October 2026); a lower rank number is a better score. Virginia Tech scores each tested model across 16 lab impacts and does not measure fit, so a rating and a fit are separate questions.

Price tiers

Which helmet to try for each KASK line, by price tier

Every KASK line has a carried helmet that matches its look, from the dial-fit Equinavia Gardian at the lowest tier to the One K MIPS CCS Avance Wide Brim at the top.

Price tiers among these picks: $ (lowest) to $$$$ (highest)

If you likeTryWhy riders choose it
Star Lady, low show profileA low, clean shell; riders call the Lynx lower in profile.
Star Lady Hunter, wide brimA hunter-style brim with a dial or liners to fine-tune the fit.
Dogma XCA skull with no visor that laces at the neck.
Kooki Lady or KookiA dial fit for everyday riding; the Skylar has a ponytail cut-out.
Click-in linersRegular/Round and Long Oval shells, with refit liners sold on their own.

Fit tip

Wrap a soft tape around your head about an inch above your eyebrows. KASK sizes in single centimeters, while the Trauma Void Lynx and Equinavia helmets adjust with a dial, so try a dial helmet at your measurement and between sizes.

Trauma Void

KASK vs Trauma Void: Lynx Smooth Top, EQ3 NEOZ and Lynx Eventing

A rider in a navy Trauma Void EQ3 helmet holding her horse's reins

Trauma Void's Lynx Smooth Top and EQ3 NEOZ are the helmets we carry closest to a KASK Star Lady or Dogma, with a low, clean show profile, a dial at the back and a removable, washable Coolmax liner; Trauma Void lists MIPS on both.

The Lynx Smooth Top has a round fit in small, medium and large and weighs 600 grams as Trauma Void lists it. The EQ3 NEOZ adds a one-handed magnetic snap, and Trauma Void lists it as SEI ASTM F1163-23 certified. For cross-country in place of a Dogma XC, the Lynx Eventing Skull weighs about 560 grams, has no visor and laces at the neck; between sizes, Trauma Void says to take the larger size.

In fairness

KASK's single-centimeter sizing covers 13 sizes, so a rider who fits one KASK size exactly may need to try two Trauma Void sizes to match it.

One K

KASK vs One K: Avance Wide Brim, Defender and refit liners

A One K MIPS CCS Avance Wide Brim helmet in black matte
One K MIPS CCS Avance Wide Brim Helmet

One K's MIPS CCS Avance Wide Brim and Defender are the One K helmets that sit nearest a KASK on look, with a matte shell, a wide-brim option and refit liners that change the fit the way KASK's click-in liners do.

One K lists a polycarbonate and ABS composite shell, a washable, quick-dry, moisture-wicking liner and two head shapes: Regular/Round for equal front-to-back and side-to-side measurements, and Long Oval for a head longer front-to-back. The MIPS CCS Avance Wide Brim adds MIPS and a brim, and the Defender Refit Liner is sold on its own.

In fairness

KASK lists merino wool padding, and One K lists a quick-dry, moisture-wicking liner, so the feel against your head differs; try both on before you choose.

Equinavia and IRH

KASK vs Equinavia and IRH: Crown MIPS, Gardian and F1 Wide Brim

A rider in a navy Equinavia Crown MIPS helmet standing beside her bay horse
Equinavia Crown MIPS Riding Helmet

Equinavia's Crown MIPS, Gardian and Skylar and IRH's F1 Wide Brim are the helmets we carry for riders who want the KASK look a price tier or two lower, with a dial or liners to adjust the fit: the Crown MIPS has a wide brim and a chrome-coated frame, the Gardian a low-profile shell, and the Skylar a ponytail cut-out.

Equinavia lists the Crown MIPS with front, top and rear vents, a dial-adjustable fit and a removable, washable memory-foam lining, certified to ASTM F1163-23/SEI and CE EN 1384:2023. IRH's F1 Wide Brim has a lightweight shell and two liner thicknesses in the box. Riders tell us the Equinavia Gardian and an IRH both fit with hair up or down.

In fairness

A KASK Star Lady Hunter's brim and finish are their own look; hold the Crown MIPS and F1 Wide Brim up beside a photo of the KASK you like before you choose.

Equinavia Gardian Riding Helmet

Just love this helmet. Looks great, very comfortable, love that it is adjustable (for hair up and hair down)

Fit first

Round head, long oval or hair up: which helmet to try first

A rider in a Trauma Void Lynx Eventing Skull jumping her bay horse over a rail in a field
Trauma Void Lynx Eventing Skull

Match the helmet to your head shape first: Trauma Void describes the Lynx as a round fit, One K makes its Defender and Avance in Regular/Round and Long Oval, and a dial-fit helmet such as the Equinavia Gardian or Skylar lets you fine-tune between sizes.

Measure about an inch above your eyebrows, compare front-to-back with ear to ear, and try two or three shapes with your hair the way you ride; our oval riding helmets page gathers the long oval fits. For hair up, the Skylar has a ponytail cut-out, and One K refit liners change the fit for a bun or pony.

In fairness

If a KASK already fits your very round head, keep it as your benchmark and try the Trauma Void EQ3 NEOZ and Lynx side by side with it before you switch.

Helmet fit

Helmet fit to head is a big factor in my decision making. I wanted a KASK but they don't fit my head at all.

What KASK does well

KASK is known for a clean hunter profile and a wide size run, and riders who love theirs have good reasons.

If you fit one centimeter size exactly, KASK lists the Star Lady Hunter in 13 sizes from 51 to 63 cm.

If you like a natural-fiber liner, KASK lists merino wool padding with click-in liners that wash and swap.

If you want a light helmet, KASK lists the Star Lady Hunter at 580 grams and the Dogma XC at 520 grams.

If your head is very round and a KASK already fits you, trust that fit and try any new helmet against it.

KASK vs the helmets we carry: your questions

What is the difference between KASK and One K helmets?

KASK makes the Star Lady, Dogma and Kooki Lady with click-in merino liners, and KASK's own pages for the Star Lady Hunter and Dogma XC list no MIPS. One K's MIPS CCS Avance Wide Brim and Defender come in Regular/Round and Long Oval shells with refit liners. Measure your head, then try a One K in the shape that matches.

KASK vs Trauma Void: which fits my head shape?

Fit depends on head shape, so try both. Trauma Void describes the Lynx Smooth Top as a round fit in small, medium and large with a dial at the back, while KASK sizes in single centimeters from 51 to 63. Try the Lynx Smooth Top and the EQ3 NEOZ.

Close

How do the helmets we carry rate at Virginia Tech?

Virginia Tech's 2026 equestrian table rates the Trauma Void NEOZ EQ3 at 4 stars, 6th of 54, and the Trauma Void Pardus MIPS, Equinavia Gardian and Equinavia Skylar at 3 stars, 18th, 20th and 26th. Virginia Tech does not measure fit, so try any helmet on.

Close

Do KASK helmets have MIPS?

KASK's own pages for the Star Lady Hunter and Dogma XC list no MIPS. Helmets we carry that list MIPS include the Trauma Void Lynx Smooth Top and EQ3 NEOZ, the Equinavia Crown MIPS and the One K MIPS CCS Avance Wide Brim.

Close

Which of these helmets works with my hair up?

Look for a dial fit, a ponytail cut-out or refit liners: the Equinavia Skylar has a ponytail cut-out and a dial, the Gardian adjusts with a dial, and One K sells refit liners. Try any helmet on with your hair the way you ride and check that it sits level and snug.
