The Pony Edit

Blankets & Coolers
A pony blanket should close neatly at the chest, sit flat over the withers and end at the tail, without the extra length that bunches on a short back. Our pony shelf holds turnout blankets, stable blankets, sheets and coolers from Shetland sizes up to 63 inches.
Amigo makes dedicated Pony and Petite turnouts in fills from 0g to 200g, so you can match the weight to the weather. Weatherbeeta, Rhino, Horseware Newmarket, LeMieux and Shires round out the range for ponies that live out or come in at night.
What Riders Say
On pony blankets and coolers
used these blankets for many years. The only one that fits my welsh ponies. love the blankets and service.
My pony is 13.2 and a little longer than most ponies her size. This blanket fits her very well and does not shift around much at all due to the darts and adjustable straps in front. It also keeps her dry. I would buy this product again for another horse. The only negative is that the tail flap is a little long for a pony and traps manure.
LeMieux didn't lower the quality of their pony blankets like some other brands do. This blanket has all the features of their horse-sized blankets, plus the adorable star print. If anything, mine was a bit large but still fit my wide-bodied pony just fine.
good quality, perfect fit for my pony. It is hard to find a light weight in a smaller size. So I spend a bit more money on the blanket but is was a good decision. Great blanket for California weather.

Under Saddle
A pony saddle has a shorter seat and tree, so its pad and girth need to match. Pony saddle pads are cut for a smaller saddle and sit neatly under the panels instead of hanging below them.
Our pony girths run to 46 inches for long girths, 26 inches for dressage girths and 22 inches for western cinches, from EquiFit, LeMieux, Shires ARMA, Ovation and Equinavia. Pony saddles and leadline pads come from Henri de Rivel, Shires Aviemore, Ovation and Pessoa, and stirrup leathers run 48 inches and under.
What Riders Say
On pony saddle pads and girths
Absolutely love this pad. It fits beautifully on my 13.1 hand pony. He moved really well in it and I think he was secretly happy we were matching, as I got the shirt to go with it. Thanks for creating such wonderful products!!
Ovation Airform Chafeless Girth
Love this girth. Started using this girth for a pony prone to girth sores. No more sores. Comfortable, economical, durable (took me almost 8 years to wear out my last one with daily use!!) just hose off. Awesome!!
It's HARD to find good pony sized items, and this is a great pad. My 14.2 hand, short backed pony looks ridiculous with a normal size pad on him and this is just big enough to stay between the rear of the saddle panels and his back, without nudging his croup. Great little show pad in white.
Love a string girth. Finally found this one in 38” to fit a smaller pony. Really helps to stop the saddle slipping and is wide to distribute pressure over a wider area.

Bridles, Reins, Martingales & Bits
Pony bridles come in labeled sizes, from Shetland to Pony/Cob, so the browband, noseband and cheekpieces sit where they should on a smaller head. Pony reins run 48 inches and under, short enough that a young rider isn't managing loops of extra rein. Martingales and breastplates in pony sizes fit a shorter neck and a narrower chest.
Pony bits are measured across the mouthpiece. Centaur, Herm Sprenger, Myler and Toklat all make pony bits, and our full pony bit shelf holds every mouthpiece we carry at 4.75 inches and under.

Horseware Jumper Reins w/Stoppers
I absolutely LOVE these reins! The length was perfect for my pony's bridle and they are SO grippy! The stops are close together making it easy to lengthen or shorten the reins and they don't slip. At all!
I use this bit on a 5yr old qh/welsh pony that I am training and he loves it! He used to be in a full cheek but I switched to this bit and he was much quieter than with the other bit! the rollers really help him stay calm when riding and he stays more focused.
Great quality as all my other HDR tack. Fits my medium pony perfectly. Very soft, supple leather.
Really lovely quality. I bought in black and Pony size fits my 12.2 Cob perfectly. The metal clips to attach the side straps to the saddle are really useful and simplifies attaching the straps. Really pleased.

Halters & Leads
A horse-size halter hangs low on a pony's nose and slips over the ears. Pony halters fit a smaller head, with breakaway and leather styles for turnout and padded halters for travel and the show grounds.
Dublin, Equinavia, Shires Velociti, Shires ARMA, LeMieux and Horseware all make pony halters, and the shelf includes pony-length leads to match.
What Riders Say
On pony halters
The pony size fits my Paso mare perfectly (13.3 hands). The quality is surprisingly great, especially at this price. Like any leather, it takes time to break it in. It looks much better than in the photo here. Fantastic halter!!!
its a small cob size, just fits my Dales pony. But it does do the job I needed it too - stopping snatching out of the hands of a young person.
bought this and have had this for over a month. This halter is super soft and is super strong. I have used this as a turnout halter and it really has held up amazingly. Going to buy another for sure!
My daughter and I (and horses) LOVE Shires products! We have the Velociti Lusso dressage bridle and wanted a nice show & travel halter. The Rapida didn't disappoint! It's beautiful, well-made and so soft!

Protective Boots & Bandages
Boots made for a horse sit too high on a pony's leg and gap at the fetlock. Pony-size protective boots fit a shorter leg, so they stay in place through a jump, a day in the field or a trip in the trailer.
Shires ARMA makes bell, overreach and brushing boots in pony sizes, many in bright colors, and Horze, EquiFit, TuffRider and Ovation fill in the rest of the shelf.
Which boot does what
Brushing, tendon and fetlock boots
Guard the lower leg against knocks, including a pony's own hooves, when schooling and jumping.
Bell and overreach boots
Cover the heel bulbs and front feet when a hind foot reaches forward, for riding and turnout.
Travel and shipping boots
Padded boots that cover the legs from knee and hock to hoof for the trailer.
Bandages and polo wraps
Wraps for schooling, support and standing in the stall, in pony lengths.
What Riders Say
On pony protective boots
These boots fit my 13hand petite pony perfectly! They have the look of pricey tendon boots but at half the price. I use them daily in the arena and out in a field and they have held up wonderfully. I got the light pink color and it is super easy to clean with minimal discoloration (its a very light color so of course it will get dirty). Can't imagine ever buying another boot than these.
I was looking for a pair of boots for my small pony jumper and I finally found a pair! He has akwardly short legs so it was very hard to find a pair of boots that fit him safely and didn't get in the way when we jumped but these boots are perfect! I ordered them in black, and in the shetland size for my small pony and they work great! They stay true to size and hold up really well. Highly recommend these!
Darling and they fit my pony super; it's very difficult to find boots for ponies, so these were a great find!
My horse is fine boned so I ordered these in pony size and they fit perfectly. Easy to clean and fit nicely.

Fly Season
A horse-size fly mask slips on a pony and leaves gaps around the eyes, and an oversized fly sheet rubs. Our pony fly shelf holds fly masks, fly sheets, fly boots and ear bonnets in pony sizes.
Shires FlyGuard, Amigo, Weatherbeeta, Horze, Rambo and LeMieux all make pony fly gear. Stock up between seasons and your pony is ready for the first warm day.
What Riders Say

Shires FlyGuard Fine Mesh Fly Mask w/Ears & Nose
An excellent fly guard that keeps our ponies safe from UV and flies. They machine wash well in just water so no scent. We prefer this brand to all others.
I will only buy Weather Beta fly mask for our herd of horses and ponies, love them the best of all the products I've tried. Last the longest, better fit around their eyes and only request would be that it has an opening for their forelock.
So happy with this bonnet! It fits my pony perfectly, and it looks great. Just had to order another because we love it so much!
I bought a Rambo last year for my pony who deals with sweet itch and it was a game changer.

Pony Sizes
Pony gear is sized two ways: tack and boots carry a labeled size, while blankets, girths, bits and leathers are measured in inches. Every product on this page has at least one size in the ranges below. Cob sizes are not included; a pony who takes a cob size will find more choice on the cob shelves.

For the Rider
Pony riders are often young riders, so their own gear lives one click away: kids' riding clothes and boots, pony-print apparel, and pony gifts for the holidays.
Questions riders ask
Pony blankets are sized in inches, measured from the center of the chest to the tail. Every blanket, sheet and cooler on our pony shelf comes in 63 inches or under; sizes under 45 inches are mini and foal sizes.
Pony/Cob is the size between Pony and Cob, made for larger ponies and small horses. A pony who sits between sizes in one brand often fits Pony/Cob, so check that brand's size chart before you order.
Pony bits are measured across the mouthpiece. Most run 4.75 inches and under, and 4.5 inches is the most common pony size. Our pony bit shelf holds every mouthpiece we carry at 4.75 inches and under.
Pony reins run 48 inches and under: small pony reins are about 42 to 43 inches and pony reins about 45 to 48 inches. Cob reins, at 51 to 54 inches, are longer than most pony riders need.
Girths are sized by length. On our pony shelf, long girths run 46 inches and under, dressage girths 26 inches and under, and western cinches 22 inches and under.
Usually. A pony's back is shorter than a horse's, so a horse saddle often sits too far back. A pony saddle has a shorter seat and panels that fit a short back, with a tree that suits wider ponies. The rider counts too: a child usually fits a pony seat of about 14 to 16 inches, while an adult on a large pony may need a bigger seat on short panels. Bigger ponies, around 14 to 14.2 hands, sometimes fit a small horse saddle, so have a saddle fitter or your trainer check before you buy.
Yes, if your pony wears a pony saddle. A pony-cut saddle pad is sized for a shorter saddle, so it sits under the panels instead of hanging past them on a short back.
Pony tack and blankets need the same quality as horse gear, cut to a smaller frame. Tack of the Day carries pony blankets and coolers, fly sheets and fly masks, saddle pads, girths, bridles, halters, bits, boots and pony saddles from Weatherbeeta, Amigo, Shires, Shires ARMA, LeMieux, Dublin, Horze, Equinavia, Centaur and more, with new deals every day.
Look for a labeled pony size on tack and boots, and measure in inches for blankets, girths and bits. For blanket sizing, read the Horse Blanket Guide, and for winter turnouts by the inch, see Pony Turnout Blankets.
