Something new · Rider to rider
The cooling sun shirt you love, in a cut and size run that fits you.
Riders who look past a Tailored Sportsman IceFil shirt usually want a roomier cut or a size above XL. Kerrits Ice Fil Lite is the closest match in fabric, Chestnut Bay SkyCool lists UPF 50 for humid heat, and Equine Couture IceFill runs up to XXX Large.

The short version
Kerrits Ice Fil Lite is the closest carried match to a Tailored Sportsman IceFil long sleeve quarter-zip, and Chestnut Bay, Equine Couture, Romfh and Dapplebay cover the short sleeve, sleeveless, plus-size and print versions.

Riders tell us the cut and the climate decide the shirt: some love how a Tailored Sportsman cools but want more room, and the riders who moved on found a Kerrits or Ovation shirt for their heat.

Ovation and Romfh both list 50+ UV protection on their quarter-zip sun shirts.

Tailored Sportsman sun shirts
Tailored Sportsman are my hands-down favorites. However, they do run a little small. Also, the fabric is pretty unforgiving (as in, it shows everything). So it's not right for everyone.
Tailored Sportsman sun shirts
The fabric is a bit clingy, so this shirt isn’t going to do you any favors if you have some belly chub, but the fabric is so soft…who cares honestly. I go for comfort in the saddle over looks any day.
Riders in Arizona choose Kerrits Ice Fil for dry heat. A rider from a humid state says it stays cool as long as she keeps moving.
Kerrits Ice Fil shirts
From Phoenix: folks, we know our sun! Kerrits Icefil all the way: I have been wearing these for years. Several of the other brands are heavier fabric, which is not what we want here in the desert.
Kerrits Ice Fil shirts
Kerrits Ice Fil for the win here in Arizona! Per Greenway Saddlery, "better than shade". Other brands are too hot in the summer, even if they are way cuter.
Kerrits Ice Fil shirts
I am very fond of the Kerrits IceFil shirts, and *as long as you stay moving* they stay pretty cool in our humid summers. The principle of evaporative cooling applies; I have gotten chilled on an 80 degree, very windy day while wearing one of these shirts.
Kerrits Ice Fil shirts
I love Kerrits products and their ice fill shirts are the coolest (in temperature) on the market.
Riders say a sun shirt means no sunscreen and no sunburn, and one in Texas calls it a summer necessity.
Sun shirts
I LOFF my sunshirts- not being coated in sunscreen slime + not being burned to a crisp = major win and despite having long sleeves, they really aren't hot to wear.
Ovation sun shirts
Love these Sun Shirts—it’s a necessity for riding during the hot Texas summers.
Same fabric name
Kerrits Ice Fil Lite is the shirt to try if you want the IceFil fabric riders know with a different cut. The Ice Fil Lite Long Sleeve Shirt is 90% polyester and 10% spandex with UPF+30, a ten-inch zip for ventilation and an equestrian-shaped hem, and Kerrits says the fabric lowers skin surface temperature by up to five degrees.
The Equibreeze Print Ice Fil Long Sleeve Shirt uses the same Ice Fil Lite fabric with exclusive prints and UPF+30, and the Equibreeze Tank adds a sleeveless version for the hottest days.

Kerrits describes a sporty, feminine fit, so look to Equine Couture or Dapplebay below if you want a roomier cut.Kerrits Ice Fil shirts

Chestnut Bay's Performance Rider SkyCool is the pick for warm, humid weather, and Kerrits Ice Fil Lite is the pick for dry desert heat. Chestnut Bay says SkyCool fabric keeps riders cool and dry in warm, humid weather.
The Performance Rider SkyCool Long Sleeve Shirt is 92% polyester and 8% spandex with 4-way stretch and UPF 50, and the SkyCool Sport Short Sleeve Shirt gives the same fabric with short sleeves. The Caliente Sun Shirt adds a stand-up collar, mesh panels and watch-hole openings.
In fairness
Humid weather is hard on any sun shirt, so weigh fabric weight and cut as heavily as the brand, and size by your usual fit.Chestnut Bay SkyCool sun shirts

Chestnut Bay SkyCool and Equine Couture IceFill list UPF 50, Romfh and Ovation list 50+ UV protection, and Kerrits Ice Fil Lite lists UPF+30; every figure is the maker's claim.

|---|---|---|
| Tailored Sportsman IceFil long sleeve | 91% nylon, 9% spandex | 50+ on one retailer listing, none stated on another |

Past XL

Equine Couture and Dapplebay sun shirts run up to XXX Large, Kerrits runs to 2X and Chestnut Bay to XX Large, so riders who outgrow a Tailored Sportsman's XXS-to-XL range have four places to go.
The Equine Couture IceFill Sun Shirt has long sleeves, a quarter zip, UPF 50 and a white collar and cuffs, and the Surfside Icefil Sunshirt (82% nylon, 18% polyester) adds a high neck and thumb-hole sleeves. Chestnut Bay lists a size Medium at 25 1/2 inches in back length with a 24-inch sleeve, so compare those numbers with a shirt you own.

Each size chart, with bust numbers, sits on the product page. Check it against the shirt you wear now, because sun shirts fit differently by brand.Equine Couture IceFill sun shirts

Fit tip
Match by cut first and fabric second: the quarter zip with mesh under the sleeves is shared by Romfh, Ovation and Chestnut Bay, so the differences are weight, size run and UPF. Look elsewhere for a crew neck or button-down.White collars

Chestnut Bay's Caliente Sun Shirt and Equine Couture's IceFill Sun Shirt are the carried sun shirts to try for a show-ring look. Chestnut Bay lists the Caliente Sun Shirt with UPF 50, a stand-up collar and contrast piping, and the IceFill has a white collar and cuffs so it doubles as a show shirt.
For a plain white-collar competition shirt, the SkyCool Liberty Long Sleeve Show Shirt is Chestnut Bay's show version of the same fabric.
In fairness
Show rules vary by organizer, and one 2026 team dress guide lists Kerrits and Ovation among acceptable white-collar shirts, so check your rulebook.Print-led picks

Dapplebay's quarter-zip tops are the carried pick for riders who want a print: constellation, toile and gingham, in a lightweight ice-feel fabric. Dapplebay describes the fabric as keeping riders cool and providing sun protection in warm rides, with a longer length that stays tucked in.
Kerrits Equibreeze adds equestrian-inspired prints in Ice Fil Lite, so a print does not mean giving up the fabric.
In fairness
Dapplebay's prints are the draw; if UPF 50 is the first thing you check, start with Chestnut Bay or Equine Couture above.Dapplebay quarter-zip sun shirts

Riders who live in a Tailored Sportsman IceFil shirt have good reasons, and some of them still apply.
If you love how IceFil cools, Kerrits Ice Fil Lite and Equine Couture IceFill use the IceFil name too, so you can keep the fabric and change the cut.
If you like a soft hand and do not mind a close fit, one rider says the fabric is so soft she picks comfort in the saddle over looks.
If you want a quarter-zip with mesh under the sleeves, Tailored Sportsman lists that design in 91% nylon and 9% spandex, a layout Romfh, Ovation and Chestnut Bay share.
Retailer listings disagree: one shows UPF 50+ for the Tailored Sportsman IceFil long sleeve and another shows no rating. If a printed rating matters, pick a shirt whose maker lists one: Chestnut Bay SkyCool and Equine Couture IceFill list UPF 50, and Romfh and Ovation list 50+ UV protection. Check the product page first.
CloseOne rider says Tailored Sportsman shirts run a little small and that the fabric shows everything, so it is not right for everyone. If you are between sizes, compare your measurements with the size chart on the product page before you choose Kerrits or Chestnut Bay.
CloseIceFil is a cooling, moisture-wicking fabric name used by several brands: Kerrits makes Ice Fil Lite shirts, and Equine Couture sells IceFill and Surfside Icefil sun shirts. Choose by cut, size run and UPF, because the fabric name alone does not tell you the weight.
CloseChestnut Bay says its SkyCool fabric keeps riders cool and dry in warm, humid weather, and the Performance Rider SkyCool Long Sleeve Shirt lists UPF 50. Humid air is hard on any sun shirt, so compare fabric weight and cut as well as the brand.
CloseEquine Couture IceFill and Dapplebay quarter-zip tops run up to XXX Large, Kerrits Ice Fil Lite shirts run to 2X, and Chestnut Bay SkyCool runs to XX Large (18-20). Tailored Sportsman's IceFil shirt is listed from XXS to XL, so check the size chart on the product page if you are above XL.
