Barn question of the week: does your barn let students ride in a bike helmet?

We get this one a lot from parents. Short version: most barns, lessons and shows ask for a helmet certified to a riding standard, and a bike helmet isn’t. Tell us what your barn requires, and we’ll put the full answer in the first comment.

Before you turn out in the rain, check the tag. A rain sheet keeps him dry but adds little warmth. A turnout is waterproof and comes in fill weights. A stable blanket isn’t waterproof at all, and a horse rained on in one can end up colder than with nothing on (University of Georgia).

That’s the cooler doing its job. 👏 Here’s the full review: “I used this cooler last evening after a bath on my wooly Hanoverian GP horse and was utterly impressed by how quickly it dried him! I pulled it off after working my two other horses and he was almost completely dry. I was amazed at how wet the cooler was and yet his coat was dry. Luckily I purchased one for all of my horses!! I’ve owned ALOT of coolers and this is my new favorite!!”
