    Cut, fabric, fit

How to choose a women's show coat: cut, fabric and fit

Most of today's show coats are stretch technical fabrics you can wash at home. The RJ Classics Sloane Show Coat is a three-button coat in stretch fabric with a hidden interior zipper, number holes and zipper pockets, and the Kerrits Stretch Competitor Koat 4 Snap pairs a snap front with a hidden zip and eyelets at the waist for number strings.

For a classic look in a lighter build, the RJ Classics Monterey Show Coat is Italian jersey with an unconstructed design, a hidden zipper and removable cuffs. Alessandro Albanese builds its Motion Lite Competition Jacket with no lining, a hidden zip fastener and interchangeable buttons for more than one discipline.

    What Riders Say

    On fit and sizing

RJ Classics Melody Mesh Show Coat

First off I want to give a huge shout out to R. J. Classics for their sizing. This coat comes in short, regular and long lengths…in sizes 00 – 16. I mean…their sizing covers ALMOST everyone. It’s very extensive. Also major props to them on the easy care level of this jacket. It came out looking brand new from the washing machine. No wrinkling. No loss of shape. I washed it as the instructions stated and it came out looking exactly as it came new in the bag.

    RJ Classics show coat

Excellent show coat for summer weather, super lightweight and stretchy. I would recommend sizing down when compared to other RJ coats, especially if you feel like you're between sizes. This one is very stretchy!

        What Riders Say

        On hot show days

B Vertigo Gabrielle Mesh Show Jacket

This jacket is very well made and perfect for hot hot weather. To me, it feels like riding in a tee shirt. It looks nice, is tailored, not tight in any way so completely unrestrictive. I wore it in Temecula at Galway in August and it was perfect because it is mesh, but not seethrough. Excellent product!

        Size & fit

Women's show coat sizing: how to choose your size

Brands size differently. RJ Classics makes many of its coats in short, regular and long lengths, Kerrits offers some colors in Petite sizing with shorter proportions, and B Vertigo and Horze use European sizing, so check the size chart on each product page.

Find Your Fit at the top of the page goes straight to every size and length we have in stock, from 00 Short to 24W Regular.

        Care

Washing and caring for a women's show coat

        1. Close the buttons and zipper, then turn the coat inside out.
        2. Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle; RJ Classics says to wash its coats separately.
        3. Skip bleach and fabric softener.
        4. Hang or lay flat to dry, and never dry clean a coat whose label says not to. Wool coats such as the RJ Classics Foxy Tweed Hunt Coat are dry clean only, and so are shadbelly points.

          Questions riders ask

          Women's competition jackets FAQ

What color show coat should I buy?

Navy and black are the classic show coat colors and work in many classes, while gray and green add a little personality, light gray and light blue give a softer look, and fashion colors like violet, lilac and teal let you stand out. Check your prize list, then choose a color you'll wear across your classes.

Can I wash a show coat at home?

Many can. RJ Classics, Kerrits, Alessandro Albanese and Equine Couture list machine-washable coats on their product pages. Wool hunt coats and shadbelly points are dry clean only, so check the care label first.

What is the coolest show coat for a hot show day?

Look for a mesh body, mesh panels or an unlined build, such as the Tredstep Airlite II, RJ Classics Harmony EVO Mesh or B Vertigo Gabrielle Mesh. Riders tell us mesh coats feel cooler without looking see-through.

How do I choose a show coat size?

Size by chest and shoulders, then pick the length (short, regular or long where offered) that brings the sleeve to your wrist. Brands size differently, so use the size chart on each product page and Find Your Fit at the top of this page.
