Horseware Blankets Compared
Two Horseware turnout lines compared by outer fabric, fill, lining and cut, so you can match the right one to your horse.
Rambo suits riders who want a 1000D to 1680D ballistic nylon outer and a cut for high withers or big shoulders. Amigo suits riders who want Horseware fit, a hood included and a lower tier on 1200D or ripstop outers.
| Line | Rambo Original | Rambo Optimo | Rambo 1680D and Wug | Amigo 1200D | Amigo Bravo 12 | Amigo Ripstop 900 |

| Tier: $ = lowest-priced of these picks, $$$$ = top tier | $$$ | $$$$ | $$$ | $$ | $$ | $ |
| Who it is for | Riders who want the classic Rambo cut | Bigger-built horses | Turnout with pasture mates; Wug for high withers | Light turnout for wet weather | Riders who want a hood included | Mild winters, straight-front cut |
| Outer | 1000D ballistic nylon | 1000D ballistic nylon | 1680D ballistic nylon | 1200D polyester | 1200D polyester | 900D ripstop polyester |

Rambo is worth the step up when your horse needs a 1000D to 1680D ballistic nylon outer and a cut for high withers or big shoulders; Amigo is the better fit when a 1200D polyester or 900D ripstop outer from the same maker covers your weather. Both are Horseware lines, so the two share leg arches and Horseware's surcingle systems. Rambo's top-of-the-line 1680D Turnout is cut from 1680D ballistic nylon, and the Optimo adds an articulated dart above the shoulder. Amigo's Bravo 12 Plus includes a detachable hood and a disc front closure, and the 1200D Turnout keeps the same V-front closure and leg arches as Rambo.
Amigo wins when you want a hood included or a lower tier; Rambo wins on outer toughness and shoulder room. Look elsewhere than Rambo if you want a hood in the box: the Amigo Bravo 12 Plus includes a detachable one. Look elsewhere than Amigo if you want ballistic nylon: the Rambo Original, Optimo and 1680D are cut from it.
I've purchased just about every brand of blanket out there and always go back to the Rambo because of the cut and shape: they have good cut for the wither and shoulder that I just don't see in other brands.
I really wanted to love my PE Buster for my Friesian cross. It's a very nice blanket. But it's not as generous in the neck opening / shoulder as the Amigo XL and is a smidge too snug on him.
I used to buy only Rambos but have completely switched over to Amigo Bravo 1200D's now.
We used to use the outdoor ones at work, very heavy and not waterproof for long.... As opposed to Rambo, which lasted forever, lightweight to handle and actually waterproof!
Rambo turnouts run from the 1000D ballistic nylon Original and Optimo to the 1680D ballistic nylon 1680D Turnout and 1680D Wug Turnout, and each fixes a different fit or fabric need. The Original keeps the classic cut with double front closures, and Horseware guarantees its waterproofing and breathability for three years. The Optimo is designed for bigger-built horses, with an articulated pivotal dart above the shoulder and a Sure-Fit neck. The 1680D adds a V-neck closure and a slick surface that Horseware says guards against biting and tearing, and the Wug's high neck reduces wither pressure. The Duo Turnout arrives with a 300g liner and a neck cover.
Riders tell us Rambo's neck and shoulder cut does not rub high withers and big chests. Look elsewhere if you want liner attachments on a Rambo Original, which has none; the Optimo, 1680D and Duo take liners.

Shop all ›I love my Rambos. I have some that are 10 years old, never needed a repair, and are still completely waterproof.
The neck closure is awesome and does not rub him - he has big shoulders and a very high wither so he is difficult to fit.
I have the Rambo Duo and love it, and love that it comes with liners I can add / remove.
I use rambos. They are the only ones I have found that don't rub my larger chested horses.
Amigo turnouts give you Horseware fit and liner loops on a 1200D polyester outer in the Bravo 12 Plus, 1200D Turnout and 1200D FieldSafe Plus, or on a 900D ripstop outer in the Ripstop 900 Original. The Bravo 12 Plus pairs a Surefit neck and disc closure with a detachable hood. The Bravo 12 Wug has a high-cut neck for narrow horses with high withers, and the 1200D XL is proportioned for large-bodied horses regardless of height. Amigo also lists pony, petite and foal turnouts, so smaller horses have their own lines.
Riders tell us the Amigo neck and chest cut sits comfortably on horses that rubbed in other blankets. Look elsewhere if you want ballistic nylon: the Ripstop 900 Original is a 900D ripstop polyester with a straight front closure.

This blanket style is the only blanket I have found that fits my warmblood and doesn't twist. I only buy Horseware blankets now.
Have tried so many other brands and none fit quite right. First try on my gelding was a glass slipper moment!
I agree with the Amigo w 100gm fill. I have 4 Amigo Rainsheets, and even the oldest of them is still waterproof!
I bought an amigo rain sheet and it has worn like iron.
Rambo and Amigo both cover barn nights, and each pairs its stable blankets with liners and coolers. The Rambo Stable Blanket 200g has a microfiber lining, 200g of thermobonded fill and liner loops, and the Rambo Optimo Liner 100g attaches by Velcro loops to Optimo rugs and washes in a domestic machine. Amigo's Diamond Insulator 200g is a diamond-weave stable blanket with 200g of fill and cross belly straps, and the Amigo Fleece Cooler is a 360gsm moisture-wicking anti-pill fleece. For lunging and hand walking, the Ripstop 900D Walker Rug 100g has a cutaway design that frees the shoulder.
Look elsewhere if you need a stable blanket that can go outside: the Amigo Diamond Insulator is designed for barn use and is not waterproof.
with 4+ years of experience to back me up on this one, the Rambo blanket liners work GREAT with non-Rambo and non-Horseware blankets.
★★★★★
Perfect training blanket for lunging, long lining or hand walking. Fits perfectly and like items I’ve purchased before, I will have this for a long time as Amigo products are durable, and wash well.
Riders compare how each line fits, holds up in the weather and stays put.
I love the Amigo rain sheet for our rainy weather here in the Pacific Northwest. Theses sheets fit well and last several years.
I've been using Rambo Optimos with the 200 & 400g liners for 2 seasons now. I love them! They don't shift, easy to work with, and I only have 1 waterproof layer per horse to launder at the end of the season, instead of 3.
I moved my thoroughbred from Florida to Utah in midwinter. He was shivering like a leaf in his old 400g fill heavyweight blanket the first night. I put this on and he was toasty warm in minutes and hasn't been cold since, in wind, snow, and subzero temperatures out in the open at night!
It fits really well on my Quarter horse, a little short on his, but that is expected for him. He really enjoys it, and he destroys everything, but he has yet to destroy it.
Rambo turnouts use 1000D to 1680D ballistic nylon outers, while Amigo uses 1200D polyester or 900D ripstop polyester. Rambo adds cuts such as the Optimo dart and the Wug high neck; Amigo includes a hood on the Bravo 12 Plus and sits a tier lower.
