TuffRider Women's Starter Front Zip Paddock Boots
If you are on a budget and want the best bang for your buck these are great boots! I am an assistant trainer and am out at the barn all day six days a week riding and these boots lasted me over a year, about the same as leather paddock boots would have.
Shires Moretta Women's Rosetta Paddock Boots
These boots are the only boots that comfortably fit my very wide foot. All areas and other brands end up being quite painful. Very good value for money, this will be my fourth and fifth pair that I have purchased. I stock up because I’m fearful, I won’t be able to get them in the future
Kerrits Women's Trail Blazer Lace Up Boots
Absolutely fabulous boot; comfortable, no break in time. Extremely fast ship and unbelievable pricing. The absolute best all around.
I have major feet issues and high arches so my feet ache terribly after a day. Which usually means I need to add support inserts and/or the zipper won't close. I went up half a size and I am DEIGHTED how comfy, padded, yet supportive these paddock boots are! Beautiful classy look to boot! I'd hug the designer who created these boots if I could!! TYVM

The Boot Edit

Zip, lace or pull-on
Several styles come both ways, so you can keep the boot you like and choose the closure: the TuffRider Starter, Saxon Syntovia, Mountain Horse Snowy River and Mountain Horse Arctica each come in a zip and a lace-up version, and Shires Moretta makes the Vittoria XGRIP with a front zip and the Eleonora XGRIP with a lace-up front.

Dublin Women's Venturer RS Front Zip Boots III
Very comfortable, durable, worth the money, zipper allows boots to open wider so boots easier to get on & off as opposed to lace up boots that are forever coming untied. The zipper pull is easier for my old fingers to hold on to so I can zip up my boots. Yes I would recommend these boots.
Horze Classic Leather Jodhpur Boots
Very well made product...I was a little disappointed at first just because I didn't look closely enough before ordering and didn't realize these do not zip up, they pull on (I'm too used to my zip up paddock boots I guess!), so I was a little worried they would come off but they stay on very well! The elastic bands on the top of each side are strong enough that even with HEELS DOWN!!, they don't slide around ;)
Kerrits Women's Woodstock Waterproof Barn Boots
Love these. They fit perfectly, are well made, have strong zipper on the side and even clean up well for out and about in rainy, cold weather.
Shires Moretta Women's Clio Paddock Boots
I use these for cross country lessons and just normal riding. I didn't want to break the bank for a boot that will get beaten up and would go through water, mud and falls. These boots have gone through 2 years of fairly rough conditions and haven't had a single issue. The zipper has held up great, no tears and the stitching is still 100% perfect. I've been stepped on, walked through water, mud, dirt and have never had a problem. These boots are comfortable and it's hard to find a pair that's comfortable for my wide feet. These had a very short break in period and are comfortable.

What Our Customers Buy Most
Zip, lace and pull-on paddock boots

Country & jodhpur boots
Dublin designs the Venturer RS Jodhpur Boots III specifically for riding, to fit well in a stirrup iron, and describes them going from throwing hay and filling buckets to tacking up and hacking out. Shires Moretta builds the Forio Dealer with a waterproof membrane as a work boot or for general wear, and Tredstep makes the Spirit Pull On Short Country Boot in waterproof oiled nubuck for the barn or about the country.

Dublin Women's Venturer RS Jodphur Boots III
I have been looking for these kind of boots, they work well for riding and barn things! My ankles don't love the regular paddock boots, but with these my ankles are happy. Great fit, and they look good!
Tredstep Spirit Pull On Short Country Boot
It didn't need breaking in time. Slip on and go. No blisters. Tredstep is the best of the best.
Shires Moretta Women's Forio Dealer Boots
Great fit, looks good, and comfortable. Nice leather! Even looks good under your jeans, :)
Dublin Women's Venturer Jodphur Boots III
I think I've had four or five pairs of these boots and have loved every single pair. I have a wider foot and higher instep and these just fit perfectly.

Waterproof & winter
Mountain Horse lines the Snowy River Winter Zip Paddock Boot with 200g Thinsulate and faux fur inside waterproof full-grain leather, and the Arctica adds retractable Ice Hook Technology to its winter grip outsole for icy ground. TuffRider makes the Como in waterproof full-grain leather with a front zip, for rain, mud and the wash rack.

Shires Moretta Women's Eleonora XGRIP Boots
These boots are great! Wore them all day on the first day and took them into water working with a horse and my feet were dry! Very well made. I love them. So glad I purchased the Morettas!
Mountain Horse Women's Arctica Lace Winter Paddock
I have worn mountain horse winter paddocks for years. Keep my feet warm and dry.
Kerrits Women's Woodstock Waterproof Barn Boots
I ride in them, work all morning in the farm in them and walk through damp pastures in them because the water proofing lasts a long time.

Barn boots & wellies
LeMieux makes the Bramshaw Chelsea Welly with a rubber outer, a cushioned neoprene lining and traction lug soles. Horze builds the Morgan Neoprene Short Boots for barn work, with a vulcanized rubber foot and a neoprene shaft, and Mudruckers Waterproof Shoes are neoprene-lined slip-ons with a rubber shell. If you want a leather boot you can also ride in, Kerrits gives the Woodstock Waterproof Barn Boots a 1-inch ride-safe heel.

Mudruckers Waterproof Tall Boot
These muck boots are insanely durable and easy to take care of. They are insulated enough to help keep you warm in the winter, but not too heavy for summer. My horse's field is blocked by a giant mud puddle in the spring and I refused to go near it without these on. They've saved me from getting stuck more times than I can count. The toe is very durable. I've gotten stepped on quite a few times and barely felt a thing. These boots are definitely worth the higher price.
Mudruckers Waterproof Tall Boot
I have had these boots for 2+ years and they've held up great. I wear them year round in the snow, rain, ect. They're perfect for cleaning stalls and walking around the barn before you ride, plus I wear them in the woods and in water. I wear them almost every day, they are so comfortable. 10/10!
Dublin River boots! They are survivors when it comes to the barn. I have killed many paddock boots/winter boots/rubber boots and the Dublins stay strong!
I have only had my boots a few days but have worn them every day. It's been such bad weather and my walks with my dogs consist of wading through flooded areas. My boots are incredibly comfortable and warm. A perfect fit that allow for thick socks. I am only concerned about getting them muddy as they look so clean still, despite getting wet. My regular wellies boots are sulking since these bad boys arrived!!!

Kerrits cuts the Groundwork Sneaker with a hay-shielding knit collar and a pull-on fit, for morning chores to coffee runs. LeMieux puts Michelin rubber outsoles on its Kanta and Trax sneakers, and Tredstep gives the Motion-T a fully sealed waterproof membrane and slip-on cord lacing.

Kerrits Women's Groundwork Waterproof Sneaker
This is my second pair of kerrit sneakers. Here in soggy florida they keep my feet dry, are comfortable, wear well and clean up nicely. Big step up over rubber shoes i used to wear.
Kerrits Women's Groundwork Waterproof Sneaker
These shoes are amazing. I have wished for something like this for a long time. I hate wearing boots around the barn and I always ruin my tennis shoes once they get wet :( five stars for these shoes
LeMieux Women's Trax Sport Waterproof Sneakers
Love these so much! Durable, definitely waterproof, and comfortable! Perfect for everyday barn chores! In fact, so comfortable that I've starting using them for exercising outside over my other running shoes.
Shires Moretta Women's Eleonora XGRIP Boots
Second the Shires Moretta range of boots. I bought the Eleonora lace ups and they are waterproof, comfortable and I’ve worn them daily all year. They do a trainer version which I’m going to buy for next summer.

Half chaps or tall boots
The half chaps or garters must match the color of the boots and be made of smooth leather or a leather-like material (DR120.1.6). In the jumper ring, boots are required at every attire level, and half chaps are permitted as long as their color matches the paddock boots (JP111.11). For schooling, lessons and trail, it is your choice, or what your trainer suggests.

Horze Classic Leather Jodhpur Boots
I have this boot in brown, size 4. I wear 9.5, sometimes 10. The 41 fits with space for padded insoles and/or thicker socks, although they are pretty comfortable as is. They look good, seem well made and go well with 37241 brown soft leather half-chap, which I have in small. Both have a medium shiny finish. I wear laceups a lot, but happy I got these for easy on/off and no zippers that break according to reviews of many boot brands. Will try to report later on durability.
Dublin Women's Venturer Jodphur Boots III
My feet have gotten wider as I've gotten older and regular paddock boots that I wear with my half chaps start killing my feet. I bought these boots a size smaller because everyone said to do so on their recommendation, and they have worked out perfect. The chaps and spurs fit well over them and you can take them straight to the wash rack. Would recommend for regular working/riding around the barn.
Saxon Women's Syntovia Zip Paddock Boots
They fit as advertised and didn’t leave blisters like most boots like this. They were easy to put on and were not stiff.
Saxon Women's Syntovia Zip Paddock Boots
Love these boots, great for everyday and show wear!

Questions riders ask
Some, yes: it depends on the style, so check what the brand says each boot is for. Among the country boots here, Dublin describes the River Field Mid Boots for riding as well as barn work and the Venturer Boots III for long rides, and Equinavia gives the Louisa a spur rest for riding. Tredstep describes the Spirit Pull On for the barn and the country, and TuffRider describes the Low Country for wet barn days and strolls, with no riding claim. USEF rules require boots or shoes worn while riding anywhere on the competition grounds to have a distinguishable heel (GR 801.9).
Not in our store: Tack of the Day files Paddock Boots and Country Boots as separate styles. A paddock boot is an ankle-height riding boot that closes with a zip, laces or elastic sides; the pull-on, elastic-sided version is the jodhpur boot. The country boots here are short leather pull-on or lace-up boots made for barn and outdoor wear, and some brands also describe theirs for riding.
These short styles are described as waterproof by their brands: Kerrits Woodstock Waterproof Barn Boots, TuffRider Como Waterproof Leather Paddock Boots, the Shires Moretta Vittoria, Eleonora and Genoa XGRIP Boots, the Mountain Horse Arctica and Snowy River winter paddocks, Dublin Rapture Insulated Zip Paddock Boots, Tredstep Spirit country boots, the LeMieux Bramshaw Chelsea Welly, Horze Morgan Neoprene Short Boots, and LeMieux Kanta and Tredstep Motion-T sneakers. Water resistant is a different claim: TuffRider calls the Low Country water resistant, and Kerrits calls the Groundwork Sneaker 2.0 water-resistant.
The USEF rules set it by level, not by preference. In dressage, tests or classes at Fourth Level or below allow tall boots or paddock or jodhpur boots with half chaps or garters that match the boots, and tall boots are required above Fourth Level (DR120.1.6). In the jumper ring, boots are required and half chaps are permitted as long as their color matches the paddock boots (JP111.11). For schooling, lessons and trail, it is your choice, or what your trainer suggests.
USEF rules require boots or shoes worn while riding anywhere on the competition grounds to have a distinguishable heel (GR 801.9), and that heel rule is why we show sneakers here for barn work, not for riding. None of the sneakers on this page is described by its brand as a riding shoe: Kerrits makes the Groundwork Sneaker for barn chores and days off from boots, LeMieux describes the Trax Sport as the sneaker to change into when you slip off your riding boots, and Shires Moretta describes the Mossa for barn work, trails and wear off the horse.
