This bit features 7" flat shank cheeks and a Myler MB 16PB wide ported barrel mouth. This is a Myler level 3 bit.
The MB 16PB has a generously wide and moderately high port that allows plenty of room for the horses tongue to pass under the bit, more so than the MB 33. Although the port is 1 7/8", its generous width makes the mouthpiece sit very low in the mouth, minimizing the likelihood of any palate pressure. Sweet iron mouthpiece oxidizes and encourages salivation.
The Flat Shank has the patented Independent Swivel Cheek, where the purchase, mouthpiece and shank all move independently of each other. The purchase is slightly angled away from the cheek to avoid rubbing. It has an indirect (curb) rein action designed to be used with a curb strap that attaches to the purchase. The flat shank uses the combination of the fixed cheek and fixed rein to apply pressure to the mouth, chin, and poll.
