Riders tell us how these boots hold up in turnout, at shows and in daily work.
I’m on my second pair of these bell boots and after trying several other brands, these seem to be the best quality of Velcro bell boots. One pair lasted us about a year of daily turnout! Highly recommend!
LeMieux Proshell Over Reach Boots
I've tried at least a half dozen brands of bell boots for 24/7 wear split between group turnout and small paddock, and these have been the most durable and longest lasting at about six months. They offer good protection without causing any rubs. I just bought my second pair. My 16.1 hand WB wears the XL.
I use the Le Mieux mesh brushing boots for schooling and jumping. Highly recommend I've had them a few years and use almost daily.
LeMieux Fleece Edged Mesh Brushing Boots
These boots are much cooler than traditional fleece boots - when I take them off my horse's legs they are not hot underneath. Highly recommend!
LeMieux Proshell Brushing Boots
I have a 17.2 hand Hanoverian gelding and it is incredibly hard to find boots that fit him properly due to his size. After having to return multiple pairs from different brands due to sizing issues, these finally fit the bill. L + XL are perfect for his front and hind legs. Planning to use these for cross country, hunter paces, and trail rides.
LeMieux Motionflex Dressage Boots
Crisp white boots and bell boots are a show warm-up essential for me! I love the protection, support, and breathability of these boots! The velcro closures keep them secure but they're still super easy to put on and take off, saving time during busy show mornings.

Jumping and cross-country put the legs at risk from strikes and rails, so riders add tendon and fetlock boots and over reach boots. The Exo Flex, Derby Projump, Motion Cool and Arika lines cover tendon and fetlock protection, and the MIMsafe XC boots come in front and hind pairs.
In the ring, dressage riders look to the Motionflex dressage boots, which come with a fur-edge version.

Bell boots cover the heel and the hoof and help guard against pulled shoes in turnout, in the stall and under saddle. Over reach boots protect the heels from the hind hooves. LeMieux makes Velcro rubber bell boots, plain or with a fleece or neoprene version, and pull-on over reach boots; bell boot sizes run from Small to XX-Large.

CloseMeasure your horse and compare against the size guide on the product page, because each style has its own guide and all measurements are approximate. One rider of a 17.2 hand Hanoverian reported that Large and XL fit the front and hind legs in the Proshell Vented Brushing Boots (rider review, 2024).
CloseRiders say the mesh styles run cooler than traditional fleece boots. One rider reported that a horse's legs were not hot underneath after wearing the Fleece Edged Mesh Brushing Boots (rider review, 2023). Heat still depends on the weather and how long the boots stay on, so take them off after work.
CloseRubber bell boots are the usual turnout choice, with pull-on over reach boots as an alternative. Riders in the reviews above report about six months to a year of daily wear from LeMieux bell and over reach boots (rider reviews, 2024 and 2025).
