These boots are amazing. I help run a 16 horse farm and ride 5 times a week multiple horses including my own, and teach students wearing these everywhere. They were not hard to break in at all in comparision to other boots I have had!I have always used half chaps because I felt like they had more give and I could lengthen my heals but these are so easy to ride in I love them. Hoping they last long and I will def buy again. Great boots for the $$
Mountain Horse Women's Veganza Field Boots
The vegan leather is beautiful and no one knew it wasn't actual leather until I told them. Comfortable from the outset, very easy break in
Horze Women's Genve Tall Dress Boots
I’ve only ridden in these boots once so far, so I can’t comment on their longevity, but I am pleasantly surprised at the quality for the price. I got them for daily wear and didn’t want to spend a fortune for boots that will take a beating. I am very impressed with how comfortable they are right out of the box and how nice they look. The Spanish tops are nice and high to allow for some drop in the ankle, and the foot bed is comfortable and supportive. I ordered based on my measurements and the provided size chart and the fit is exactly as expected. If you’re looking for a comfortable, traditional looking dress boot at very reasonable price point, these are a great choice!
Have been a blessing, had these in the past and they lasted about 5 years for everyday/lesson use. Tried to go with a different brand for about a year but ended up coming back to these. Super reliable and took about 5-6 rides to break in.
The Boot Edit

Tredstep makes its Donatello III, Medici II and Sirani boots in short, regular and tall heights, and TuffRider's Regal comes in an X-Tall. Find Your Fit at the top of the page goes straight to short, regular, tall and X Tall heights.

TuffRider Women's Regal X-Tall Field Boots
They a great pair of boots for a good price. And tall enough for me (511)!
Shires Moretta Women's Constantina Boot
Amazing fit! I am 5”9 and thought these may be too short, but they fit perfectly, there are not many large boots out there for slim women and these just tick every box. Delivery was very fast with no issues.
Ovation Highlander Winter Tall Boot
Love these boots. They fit true to size. I have a short leg and they are not to tall and do not injure the back of my knee.

What Riders Say
On warmth
Ovation Highlander Winter Tall Boot
It was -6 and 5 inches of snow last week, they kept my feet and lower legs warm and dry.
Ovation Blizzard Original Winter Tall Boot
This was a decent price for boots that are incredibly high quality and warm! A must for riding in the North in the winter.
Horze Women's Aspen Winter Tall Boots
These are very comfortable to ride in and warmer than I expected. They were just a little roomy in tue foot for my size - perfect for warm socks. They are much more attractive than similar tall winter boots at this price point and very good for clinics etc. They are also much kinder to my saddle flap! I don’t know yet how well the leather will hold up but I am very happy with the boot so far.
TuffRider Women's Tundra Fleece Lined Tall Boots in Synthetic Leather
I wore these a jumping lesson without any break-in time beforehand. They were comfortable and warm in the 29-degree weather. They have a nice grippy panel for security. They look quite appealing on. The calf has plenty of room for breeches with long underwear under them. The elastic gusset is helpful. These are going to be my go-to footwear all winter. LOVE them.

Field or dress boots
The dressage rules also say boots worn while riding anywhere on the competition grounds must have a distinguishable heel (GR 801.9, as quoted in DR120.1.6).
| Discipline | What USEF rules say about boots |
|---|---|
| Dressage | Fourth Level and below: tall boots, or paddock or jodhpur boots with half chaps or garters that match the boot color, in smooth leather or leather-like material. Above Fourth Level: tall boots, including dress or field boots, are required (DR120.1.6) |
| Jumpers | Boots are required. Half chaps are permitted if their color matches the paddock boots (JP111.11) |
| Hunters | The attire rule (HU107) does not mention rider boots. Brown boot tops are prohibited unless a junior wears scarlet (HU108.2) |
| Equitation | EQ105 and EQ106 do not mention tall or paddock boots. Only one spur on each boot (EQ106.3) |
| Schooling, lessons & trail | No rule: your choice, or what your trainer suggests |
What Riders Say
On field and dress boots
Love these boots! No break in, very comfortable. These are my every day boot but they are pretty enough to wear in a show. The value for the price is incredible!
TuffRider Women's Belmont Dress Boots
Very happy with these boots. They look very nice in the show ring, and are holding up very well so far. Minimal break in too!
Mountain Horse Women's Sovereign Field Boot
Bought the boots in brown and I love them! They felt great right out of the box and there was very little break in needed. I bought them as a daily schooling boot, but like them so much I might even use them for showing. Going old school in my brown boots and green coat!
Horze Winslow Tall Field Boots
Elegant, a great fit and good quality. I rode in them right out of the box without heel wedges or break-in.

Wide calf & slim calf
Brands name their widths differently, so Find Your Fit lists every calf width our women's tall boots come in. Laces and elastic gussets let a boot adjust at the calf: Equinavia's Ari has front laces and an extended side gusset, and Dublin's River Boots IV have an elastic top gusset and adjustable laces.
What Riders Say
On calf fit
Shires Moretta Women's Pamina Country Boots
These are the best fitting boots for my large calves that I have ever purchased. No boots ever fit me and these fit like a glove. I am extremely happy with my purchase.
TuffRider Women's Plus Rider Field Boots
So happy to have finally found a pair of field boots (with a wide calf) for my daughter!
Mountain Horse Women's Sovereign Field Boot
The slim fit in these boots are great for someone with a slim calf and ankle. I have ridden in them three times now and am leaving the zipper down about an inch while I break them in. They are sleek, the leather feels soft, and so far I really like them. I bought these after looking at various online forums to find mid-cost boots with the greatest longevity right now. These cropped up in a number of those conversations, so I'm hopeful they'll last more than the year of my previous boots (I ride 1-2 horses 4-6 times per week)!
Ovation Women's Moorland II Waterproof Highrider Tall Boot
LOVE MY BOOTS!! Great fit (my calves are always an issue), versatile for riding and chores. Really comfortable, easy on and off (haven't zipped my calf yet!) Buy these!!

What Riders Say
On riding and barn work in one boot
Ovation Telluride Winter Tall Boot
Great winter boot for the barn & to ride. I wear size 10 and they fit fine. Fits in stirrup iron. Insulation in foot area & on calf. No need for thick socks.
Horze Chester Rubber Tall Dress Boots
I got the boots today, I can't believe how soft the rubber is! They look super classy, and are perfect for riding! Hose them down and they are good as new! Exactly what I was looking for, very comfortable!I really recommend them!
The waterproof rubber sole and foot area mean I don't have to keep switching between muck boots and riding boots.
Ovation Blizzard Original Winter Tall Boot
This is the best winter barn boot ever! I am very pleased with it and highly recommend the boots to anyone living in a cold climate. I live in Colorado - winter is cold with lots of snow ❄️ and winds that form snow drifts. No problem getting thru the drifts when wearing these boots. Definitely worth the money - I ordered my size & have enough room to comfortably wear thicker boot socks as the boot seems to run large.

Where each brand's range leans. Choose a bar to shop that brand's field, dress or country boots.
For the dressage ring, USEF DR120.1.6 requires tall boots above Fourth Level, dress or field, and in practice riders there don't wear field boots. For schooling, lessons and trail, it's your choice or your trainer's. For cold barns and wet days, our range adds winter boots and country boots.
Then fit the boot to your leg with Find Your Fit: foot size, calf width and height. Shop the full range of women's tall boots in the grid above.
Questions riders ask
Verified buyers tell us their own experience. One says a pair of Horze Rover Field Boots "lasted about 5 years for everyday/lesson use." Another, a professional wearing Tredstep Avoca country boots "hard all day," says "The last pair lasted 2 years, and still has a little more wear to go." Brand care advice on our product pages: Horze says to wipe its Rover boots with a damp cloth and towel dry, and Equinavia says to store tall boots zipped with boot shapers and avoid polish around the zipper.
Styles whose product descriptions say they are waterproof include the Dublin River Boots IV and Aire Boots (a full-length waterproof membrane lining), the Mountain Horse Snowy River and Arctica winter tall boots, the Tredstep Shannon Fur H2O Country Boot and the B Vertigo Cetus Waterproof Tall Boots. Some are waterproof only to a set height: Ovation says its Moorland II is waterproof to 4 inches above the bottom of the zipper, and Mountain Horse says its Rimfrost III keeps feet dry up to the start of the zipper. Check each product page for how high the waterproofing goes.
The Horze and Equinavia size charts on our product pages say to measure your leg from the floor to the bend behind your knee, then add about half an inch to allow for drop. Other brands publish their own size charts on each product page, so check the chart for the boot you choose.
The rule allows both: USEF DR120.1.6 requires tall English-style riding boots above Fourth Level, "including dress or field boots or variations thereof," and at Fourth Level and below allows tall boots, or paddock boots with half chaps or garters that match the boot color. In practice, riders don't wear field boots in the dressage ring.
Both are brands we carry, so we're just passing along what riders say. In our women's tall boots, Dublin's range is mostly country boots, many with a waterproof membrane, while Horze's is field and dress boots plus winter boots. One verified buyer said of Dublin's Yukon Boots, "They are extremely well made." Another said of Horze Rover Field Boots, "Super reliable and took about 5-6 rides to break in."
