Zip, lace or pull-on: which short boot fits
A front zip is the easiest everyday closure, and it is the most common one here: Equinavia Tora, Tess Sport and Soren, Horze Suffolk and Wexford, and B Vertigo Saturn all close with a front zipper. Lace boots lock the fit across the instep, like Equinavia Louisa and the Tredstep Medici III and Donatello III lace boots, and pull-on or back-zip boots such as Horze Dresden and Kilkenny skip the laces altogether.

Winter and waterproof short boots
For a cold barn, Equinavia Louisa is a lace-up pull-up leather boot lined with faux fur and insulated with Thinsulate, with a welted outsole and a fold-down upper. Horze Stockholm paddock boots are lined with 100% wool and close with a double zip, Horze Idaho adds a faux fur lining and a front zip, and Horze Devon is the kids' version with a leather upper and faux fur.
For wet stalls and mud, go waterproof. Horze Morgan Neoprene Short Boots are 100% waterproof with a vulcanized rubber foot and a neoprene shaft, and Horze Bonn rubber paddock boots are waterproof too, with a faux fur lined version for winter.

Kids' and toddler paddock boots
Equinavia Tilda is made for growing feet: a synthetic upper, a perforated PU lining, an EVA footbed and a front zip, in US kids' sizes 10 to 5. Horze covers the youngest riders with the Seville toddler front-zip boot, which has a Cambrelle lining and pull straps front and back, and with kids' Kilkenny, Wexford and Bonn boots for lessons and the barn.
Kids' US sizes run 10 to 13 and then start again at 1, so a US size 1 is bigger than a 13. The chart converts European sizes to US sizes and to foot length.

Tredstep Medici III and Donatello III boots
Tredstep Ireland is part of the Equinavia family of brands, and its paddock boots are the leather option in this group. The Medici III has a calfskin full-grain leather upper, lined with calfskin, with contrast stitching and two spur rests, and comes in front zip, double zip and lace versions. The Donatello III Lace has a full-grain leather upper with a genuine leather lining. Many Tredstep paddock boots pair a full-grain leather upper with a Coolmax-lined footbed and a rubber outsole.

Short boot sizing: EU, US and foot length
Horze, Tredstep and B Vertigo short boots are sized in European (EU) sizes, and Equinavia boots are sized in US sizes. Measure your longer foot from the back of the heel to the tip of the longest toe, and add about half an inch for room. If one foot is bigger, order the size that fits the bigger foot. Equinavia boot sizes in inches
Equinavia charts give two measurements: the sole length of the boot (A) and its height from the inner sole to the highest point (B). Measure your dominant foot and add about half an inch for room. Tora is the taller boot of the two, Tess Sport the lower and sportier, and both are cut in women's US sizes 6 to 10. Kids' Tilda runs from US 10 (7.25 in sole, 4.25 in high) to US 5 (9.25 in sole, 5.5 in high), and Soren is cut in men's US sizes 8 to 13.
