How to measure for Dublin boots

1. Calf. Sit with your knee bent at a right angle, in the breeches or jeans you'll wear, and measure around the widest part of your calf. Dublin's charts give the calf measured inside the boot, so compare like with like.
2. Height. Still seated, measure from the floor to the crease behind your knee, wearing your boot socks. Leather tall riding boots settle at the ankle as they break in, so riders choose a height that sits a little high at first.
3. Foot. Start from your usual shoe size, then adjust with the short answer above. Wearing thick socks in a winter boot? Size for the sock.

Dublin River Boots size chart

River Boots IV come in three calf widths with the same foot and height: Slim from 13.0 in, Regular from 14.3 in and Wide from 15.0 in at size 6. Wide adds about 0.7 in over Regular at each size. Height runs 15.6 to 17.7 in, so the River sits below the knee on most riders; it's a country boot, not a riding-length tall boot.

Dublin's own advice for the River Boots IV: choose a larger size if you are between sizes or wearing thick socks.

Dublin tall riding boot size chart

The Holywell Tall Field Boot comes in five fittings. Slim calf starts at 12.20 in for riders with narrow legs, and the tall height reaches 20.08 in for long legs. Wide calf tops out at 16.14 in at size 11.5. The Galtymore Tall Dressage Boot uses Dublin's same five-fitting layout.

Some sizes share a measurement in Dublin's chart (for example, Slim calf is 12.99 in from size 7.5 to 8.5). We've printed the chart as Dublin publishes it.

Dublin's Foundation paddock boot chart gives height and ankle measurements in women's and kids' sizes. Riders who changed size in Dublin paddock and short boots mostly went down a half size from their usual shoe size.

Dublin half chap size chart

Measure your calf at the widest point and the height from the ankle bone to just below the back of the knee, over your paddock boot. Between sizes, riders choose by height first, so the chap doesn't catch behind the knee.

  I am 5'7" and about 155 lbs, and the mediums fit great. I have average calf lengths I would say.

Dublin vs Ariat sizing

Riders switching from Ariat paddock boots tell us they go a half to a full size smaller in Dublin. One rider wears an Ariat 7.5 and a Dublin 6.5; others go down a half size. Compare Dublin with other boot brands on our Riding Boots page.

• Dublin Venturer boots

  Take them back and order some Dublin Venturer boots in 1/2 size smaller than your old Ariats. Cheap, super comfy (I can easily wear them all day).

• Dublin zip short boots

  I did go down a bit on size as other reviews said they run large; I normally wear a 7.5 to 8.0 but got a 7, and they fit perfectly!

• Dublin paddock boots

  I bought these boots a size smaller because everyone said to do so on their recommendation, and they have worked out perfect. The chaps and spurs fit well over them.
