This bit features 6 1/2" gag cheeks and a Myler MB 046 low port comfort snaffle mouth. This is a Myler level 2 barrel racing bit.
The MB 04 is similar to the MB 02 in that it will rotate on the tongue and apply tongue pressure, however, it has a small port that introduces some tongue relief to the horse. The port allows the horse to swallow and move his tongue when he is moving forward and relaxed, which acts as a release or reward. The mouthpiece is curved, and it wraps around the bars and lips instead of pinching. Sweet iron mouthpiece oxidizes and encourages salivation.
he HBG shank is an indirect (curb) rein action designed to be used with the curb chain, which is attached to the purchase. The HBG shank uses the combination of the fixed cheek and fixed rein to apply pressure to the mouth, chin, and poll. The HBGs innovation is the sliding action of the mouthpiece. When the reins are engaged, the mouthpiece moves, giving the horse the opportunity to respond to the lightest signal before the mouthpiece hits the stop. The distance the mouthpiece can travel between the stops means that this cheekpiece will not apply very much downward pressure. The design of the mouthpiece attachment allows the mouthpiece to slide readily along the shank.
